Position Summary
The Team Member is a key contributor to the daily operations, customer experience, and overall success of the HobbyTown store. This role requires strong product knowledge, reliability, and the ability to support store leadership in driving sales, maintaining store standards, and executing operational processes. Team Members play an essential part in creating an engaging, educational, and fun environment for customers of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales Excellence
  • Deliver friendly, knowledgeable, and solution-oriented service to every customer.
  • Engage customers in conversation to understand their needs and provide expert recommendations.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge across hobby categories including RC, models, tabletop gaming, STEM/education, and more.
  • Assist customers with product troubleshooting, compatibility questions, and in-store demonstrations when appropriate.
  • Support HobbyTown loyalty programs, events, workshops, and community engagement efforts.

Store Operations
  • Accurately operate the Point of Sale system for all transactions (sales, returns, layaway, special orders, gift cards).
  • Follow all cash-handling procedures, deposit processes, and store security protocols.
  • Complete daily operational tasks such as opening/closing duties, cleaning, stocking, and maintaining store standards.
  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, labeling, and organizing incoming merchandise.

Merchandising & In-Store Presentation
  • Maintain merchandising standards according to planograms and brand guidelines.
  • Ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Support promotional and seasonal resets.
  • Maintain accurate and organized back-stock areas.

Inventory Accuracy
  • Support cycle counts, inventory audits, and product location accuracy.
  • Communicate inventory issues, gaps, or opportunities to store leadership.
  • Assist with ordering and restocking based on movement and best sellers.

Team & Culture
  • Demonstrate the "HobbyTown Way": exceptional service, passion for hobbies, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with peers and store leadership to achieve sales, margin, and labor goals.
  • Support training of new team members when needed.
  • Maintain a positive, energetic, solutions-focused attitude.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Passion and enthusiasm for hobbies, RC, models, tabletop gaming, STEM, or related interests.
  • Strong communication and customer engagement skills.
  • Comfortable learning technical product details and teaching them to customers.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to stand, move, climb ladders, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Retail experience preferred, especially in specialty retail or customer-focused environments.

Schedule & Availability
  • Full-time role typically ranges from 35-40 hours per week.
  • Part-time role typically ranges from 10-25 hours per week.
  • Must be available for weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
  • Flexibility is required for resets, events, and seasonal workload.

Salary Description
