What is a freight quote?

A freight quote is an estimate of the cost to ship goods from one location to another, provided by a freight carrier or broker. It factors in variables like shipment weight, dimensions, distance, shipping mode (e.g., air, ocean, truck), and any additional services required, such as insurance or expedited delivery. Freight quotes help businesses and individuals plan logistics and budgeting by giving a clear picture of expected shipping expenses. They can be obtained online or directly from freight service providers.

What is the difference between Freight Quote vs Freight Broker?

AspectFreight Quote
Required CredentialsNone specific; may require knowledge of shipping rates
Work EnvironmentOffice or online, focused on rate calculation and customer communication
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by freight companies, brokers, and shippers to estimate costs
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding cost estimates vs. actual shipping arrangements

While a Freight Quote provides an estimated cost for shipping goods, a Freight Broker acts as an intermediary, arranging transportation between shippers and carriers. The quote helps customers understand potential expenses, whereas brokers facilitate the actual shipping process. Both roles are essential in the logistics industry but serve different functions related to freight costs and transportation management.
