SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting the district food service production kitchen by assisting with food preparation, meal production, catering preparation, kitchen clean-up, sanitation, labeling and storage of food items, and maintaining kitchen equipment in accordance with food safety standards and department procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The frequency and percentage of duties may vary based on building assignment or department.
  1. Prepare food according to planned menus and tested recipes following all applicable food safety standards.
  2. Complete daily and weekly records, including temperature logs.
  3. Supports with recipe development and testing for implementation into Nutrition Services menus.
  4. Communicate and interact positively with students, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
  5. Assist with checking in food deliveries including quality assurance, labeling, and preparing food and supplies for storage.
  6. Check equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition and notify the Nutrition office where repairs or replacements are needed.
  7. Assist with the development of orders and monthly inventories.
  8. Clean and maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen.
  9. Maintain and care for kitchen equipment.
  10. May fill in for or assist employees at other locations as needed.
  11. Foster a team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands.
  12. Attend staff development meetings as required.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

NOTE: Nutrition Assistants/Production Assistants are hired and assigned to school and programs based on the kitchen needs and meal participation. Staff members may be reassigned in accordance with applicable law and policy when any of the following occur: meal participation changes or kitchen needs change at either the currently assigned kitchen or another kitchen in the district.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
No experience required.
Experience with food service and/or school nutrition programs preferred.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT:
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • English language skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Customer service and public relations skills.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene/health.
  • Knowledge of nutrition services, child nutrition, and Health Department guidelines preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions, and respond to management direction.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Operating knowledge of mixer, dishwasher, slicer, computer, ovens, and all other commercial kitchen equipment preferred at hire; required within 3 weeks after hire
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc. preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
Criminal background check required for hire.
Valid Colorado drivers' license preferred.
TRAINING:
Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.
SUPERVISORY/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
