Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Pastry Cook shall serve The Navigators and carry out the responsibilities outlined below in alignment with The Navigators' calling, values, and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

This role is responsible for preparing high-quality bakery and pastry items-including breakfast pastries, cakes, frostings, fondant decorations, cookies, amenities, and special-order items-with excellence and creativity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Pastry Responsibilities [95% of time]

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the correct use, care, and maintenance of all pastry equipment and tools; operate all equipment safely and only as intended.

  • Meet regularly with your supervisor to review daily assignments, anticipated guest volume, special requests, and other pertinent operational updates.

  • Complete opening and closing duties.

  • Inspecting the cleanliness and functionality of all tools, equipment, and supplies.

  • Reviewing the production schedule and par levels.

  • Establishing and prioritizing daily prep items.

  • Prepare all menu items in accordance with standardized recipes and departmental quality standards.

  • Communicate proactively with the Executive Pastry Chef regarding any anticipated product shortages to ensure uninterrupted service.

  • Adhere to all proper storage procedures, maintaining compliance with Health Department regulations and Glen Eyrie standards.

  • Practice effective waste reduction techniques and assist in maintaining food cost controls in line with forecasted targets.

Additional Responsibilities [5% of time]

  • Participate in Navigators' on-site learning and development events, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings, or other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.

  • Participate in annual processes, such as the organizational Plan and Progress Review (PPR), Engagement Survey, Reaffirmation of the Navigators Code of Conduct, Calling-Core Values-Vision, Statement of Faith, Driver's Authorization, and other releases as required.

  • Submit time worked on a weekly basis through the Workday Time Tracking system.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Spiritual: Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.

Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Pastry Cook is required; culinary training or apprenticeship certification is preferred, and a valid food handling certificate is required.

Communication & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal & written, to create understanding and build strong working relationships required.

Education: HS Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Compensation Range: $16.00-$17.00
