Job description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Food Manager to join our team. The Food Manager is responsible for preparing and distributing meals, maintaining kitchen and food-related supplies, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable handling a variety of tasks beyond traditional food service, including minor building maintenance and event support.
Essentials Duties & Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Distribution:
  • Plans and prepares snacks and meals in accordance with posted menus and nutrition regulations
  • Determines meal and snack count and distributes food to each classroom
  • Removes trays and leftovers from classrooms and disposes accordingly
  • Follows standards of personal hygiene, safety, and sanitation and ensures that other staff in the kitchen do the same
  • Keeps kitchen organized and clean, including appliances, cabinets, and all inventory
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, training sessions, and academy events as requested
  • Accepts temporary work assignments when regularly scheduled personnel are not available
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Obtain weekly allergy lists from the Director and remind teachers of children with allergies.
  • Handle milk and perishable food products safely and appropriately.
  • Label all food items with the date upon arrival.
  • Ensure kitchen remains neat and organized.

Inventory & Ordering:
  • Keep track of supply orders and reorder as needed.
  • Monitor food and supply inventory according to allergies and needs.
  • Check and verify inventory against orders.
  • Place orders from US Foods and other vendors as required.

Supply & Food Runs:
  • Conduct supply runs to nearby stores as needed.
  • Pick up weekly food from stores such as Costco and Walmart.
  • Pick up breakfast for staff and lunch for special events.

Event & Activity Support:
  • Set up and clean up for water play days during summer camp.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for staff or student events.

Facility & Maintenance Support:
  • Perform minor building maintenance tasks, such as plunging toilets and restocking paper towel dispensers.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in food service or kitchen management is must.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies as needed.
  • Comfortably performing minor maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
