How does a Flexible Workflow Automation specialist typically collaborate with other departments to optimize business processes?

A Flexible Workflow Automation specialist works closely with various departments—such as operations, IT, and business units—to identify process bottlenecks and design tailored automation solutions. Collaboration often involves conducting requirements-gathering sessions, mapping current workflows, and providing training on new automated systems. Regular communication ensures that solutions are aligned with departmental goals, and the specialist often facilitates feedback loops to iteratively improve automation outcomes. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for driving efficiency and ensuring that automation initiatives deliver tangible value.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flexible Workflow Automation Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flexible Workflow Automation Specialist, you need expertise in process analysis, automation design, and a solid understanding of business operations, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Proficiency with automation tools such as UiPath, Microsoft Power Automate, or Zapier, and knowledge of scripting languages or APIs, is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and adaptability help specialists identify process improvements and work collaboratively across departments. These skills ensure that automation solutions are efficient, scalable, and aligned with organizational goals.

What is Flexible Workflow Automation?

Flexible Workflow Automation refers to the use of technology and software to design, execute, and manage business processes with adaptability and customization in mind. Job description

* We’re supporting a high-visibility enterprise client undergoing a major AI transformation initiative focused on modernizing how internal teams build, deploy, and scale work across engineering and operations. This organization is investing heavily in AI acceleration, workflow automation, and development lifecycle optimization to improve speed, governance, and long-term operational efficiency.

They are seeking an Automation Agentic Engineer who can translate business problems into real-world AI-driven solutions. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys building workflows, deploying agents, and creating automation frameworks that improve how teams operate day to day.

This environment is fast-paced, highly visible, and requires someone who is proactive, technically strong, and confident operating in ambiguity. The right person will bring both builder energy and strong consulting instincts—they know how to create solutions, drive adoption, and communicate clearly with stakeholders across technical and business teams.

This opportunity is structured as a W2 consulting role supporting a 4-month client project, with strong potential for extension based on performance and budget. This role offers a hybrid schedule in Issaquah, WA, with three in-office days each week.*

As an Automation Agentic Engineer (Consultant) for AG Consulting Partners, a typical day might include the following:

  • Design AI-driven solutions tailored to specific business processes and operational pain points
  • Build and deploy agents and automated workflows across enterprise functions
  • Translate stakeholder use cases into scalable automation strategies and production-ready solutions
  • Develop reusable workflow templates teams can adopt and extend independently
  • Build and optimize Power Automate workflows and automation frameworks
  • Perform testing, validation, and staged deployment of automation solutions
  • Partner with change management and governance teams to ensure adoption readiness
  • Support pilot programs, user feedback loops, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Help define support models, escalation paths, and post-go-live ownership structures
  • Collaborate with technical leadership and executive stakeholders to drive implementation success

This job is for you if:

  • You naturally think in systems and workflows and enjoy solving operational inefficiencies
  • You are both technical and consultative—you can build the solution and explain the “why” behind it
  • You move quickly and are comfortable owning workstreams with minimal oversight
  • You thrive in environments where priorities shift and execution speed matters
  • You care about adoption just as much as implementation
  • You are energized by building solutions that create visible business impact

Requirements

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience in workflow automation, systems implementation, technical consulting, or solution engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power Automate, Power Platform, workflow automation, or agent-based solution design
  • Experience building production-ready automation solutions rather than only strategy recommendations
  • Strong stakeholder management and business process mapping skills
  • Comfortable operating independently in high-visibility consulting environments
  • Enterprise-level FTE experience or consulting experience supporting enterprise organizations is required

You might also have:

  • Experience with AI agents, Copilot, generative AI workflows, or enterprise AI implementations
  • Microsoft ecosystem experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting governance models, intake processes, and rollout planning
  • Familiarity with Power Apps, Azure automation tools, or low-code enterprise solutions
