Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking highly qualified individuals with a strong background in business intelligence, data warehousing, data mining, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes, and data reporting to apply for the Business Intelligence Engineer position
The Business Intelligence Engineer designs and develops data modeling for the data warehouse; monitors the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes; and provides technical support for the systems and Business Intelligence (BI) tools. The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following Knowledge: Database programming languages Relational database SQL and non-relational database SQL Business Intelligence (BI), data lake, and data warehousing concepts and tools Components of business intelligence semantic model Databases, data queries, data mining, data acquisition, and ETL strategies and tools Data analysis and root cause analysis Software engineering principles and skills working on Unix/Linux/Windows Operating systems, Version Control, and Office software Data platform support in cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, etc. Reporting analytics and data visualization tools Principles and concepts of data design patterns for organizing data lakehouses such as Medallion Architecture Competencies: Critical Thinking - Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims Professional & Technical Expertise - Applying technical subject matter to the job Action & Results Focus - Initiating tasks and focusing on accomplishment Adaptability - Responding positively to change and modifying behavior as the situation requires Attention to Detail - Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products Innovation - Imagining and devising new and better ways of doing things Oral Communication - Engaging effectively in dialogue Customer Focus - Attending to the needs and expectation of customers Teamwork - Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals Leveraging Technology - Applying technology for improvements in organizational efficiency and effectiveness Project Management - Planning and tracking projects to ensure they are on-time, on-budget, and achieve their objective Cultural Proficiency - Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions and cultures Required Education and Experience Education: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in computer science, data science, management information system, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.
Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Experience: Five years of business intelligence data and reporting experience including three years in designing and implementing data warehouses, including data mining, ETL, and BI. Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list.
