Description
CBG Surveying Texas is seeking an experienced Manager/Director of Construction Surveying & Operations to lead the development, growth, and long-term success of our Construction Surveying Division.
This is not a Senior Surveyor or Party Chief position. We are seeking a proven leader with demonstrated success managing construction surveying operations, leading and developing teams, and building scalable business operations. The ideal candidate will have previous management experience and a track record of recruiting, mentoring, and developing high-performing employees.
This role offers the unique opportunity to build and lead a Construction Surveying Division from the ground up. The Director will establish operational standards, develop processes and SOPs, recruit and develop personnel, oversee estimating and project execution, cultivate client relationships, and be accountable for the division's technical excellence, operational performance, and financial success.
Essential Responsibilities
Division Leadership & Development
  • Build and lead CBG's Construction Surveying Division from the ground up.
  • Develop the department's organizational structure, staffing strategy, SOPs, quality standards, and operating procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of construction surveying professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Establish scalable systems that support long-term growth and profitability.

Construction Survey Operations
  • Oversee all technical aspects of construction surveying projects from planning through completion.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, control networks, calculations, and construction data.
  • Develop project execution strategies, staffing plans, and surveying methodologies.
  • Ensure the accuracy, quality, and integrity of all surveying deliverables.
  • Resolve technical and operational challenges while maintaining project schedules and client expectations.

Estimating, Business Development & Client Management
  • Develop scopes of work, estimates, project pricing, staffing plans, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor project budgets, profitability, and financial performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with contractors, engineers, municipalities, developers, and key clients.
  • Lead project planning, contract review, negotiations, and client communications.
  • Identify opportunities to expand CBG's Construction Surveying Division and increase market presence.

Quality Control & Risk Management
  • Develop and enforce quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Establish processes that minimize operational risk while ensuring technical excellence.
  • Continuously improve departmental systems, documentation, and operational workflows.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Geomatics, Engineering Technology, Business Management, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive construction surveying or surveying experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven management experience leading, developing, coaching, and managing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and developing employees.
  • Experience managing multiple survey crews, office staff, and complex construction surveying projects.
  • Strong estimating, project pricing, budgeting, and financial management experience.
  • Experience developing SOPs, quality standards, operational procedures, and scalable business processes.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/RPLS) license preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of construction surveying principles, field operations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong understanding of GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, machine control, coordinate systems, control networks, and construction layouts.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and project requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, estimating, project profitability, and risk management.
  • Ability to successfully lead multiple projects, priorities, and teams simultaneously.

Performance Expectations
Success in this role will be measured by the ability to build and lead a profitable, scalable, and technically excellent Construction Surveying Division.
The Director will be expected to:
  • Successfully establish and grow CBG's Construction Surveying Division.
  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Develop scalable SOPs, estimating procedures, quality standards, and operational systems.
  • Deliver projects safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Build long-term relationships with contractors, engineers, municipalities, and developers.
  • Drive the technical, operational, and financial success of the division.
