Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Manager to join our team based in our Morrisville, NC (RTP) offices. This role is responsible for overseeing Finance and Accounting operations for American Vanguard’s AMGUARD Environmental Products business unit, reporting directly to the VP of Finance as well as being the key Finance Business Partner to our Specialty Business President. The AMGUARD Financial Manager will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with U.S. GAAP overseeing the general accounting functions and internal controls while managing the month-end and year-end closing processes.

American Vanguard is a diversified agricultural and specialty products company focusing on crop protection, turf and ornamental markets, and public health applications. The Company markets its product lines in the USA and internationally in 24 countries, including Brazil, Latin America, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several other countries in Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Company’s financial management activities including budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis across AMGUARD’s operations.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity, including daily cash monitoring, payment approvals, and working capital optimization.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules prepared by team members, ensuring adherence to internal controls.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and scenario analysis.
  • Prepare and present monthly management reporting packages, including variance commentary, KPIs, and insights to support executive decision-making at the consolidated and individual business unit level, for both the parent company and the Specialty business.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams—such as Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, HR and IT—to ensure accurate financial data, drive cost discipline, and support business initiatives.
  • Lead the annual budget cycles, partnering with business leaders to develop assumptions, align priorities, and track performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, preparing audit documentation and ensuring compliance with GAAP and SOX/internal control requirements.
  • Enhance financial processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency, and better decision support.
  • Manage special projects related to financial analysis, business performance, system implementation, process improvement, and other financial projects the unit President may identify.
  • Leading a finance team to deliver accurate and timely results

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • CPA or equivalent certification required; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, ideally within a public company environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls, and consolidation, including intercompany processes.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Big 4 audit firms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling; strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with QAD, NetSuite, Great Plains, Oracle Hyperion, FCCS, or similar financial consolidation tools preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate financial insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Supervisory experience highly desired.
