Financial Data Analyst


Summary

We are looking for an Excel expert first and a finance professional second. The Finance Data Analyst will serve as a key business partner to the Chief Financial Officer by transforming data into meaningful reports, dashboards, analyses, and decision-making tools. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining complex Microsoft Excel workbooks, automating reporting processes, analyzing financial and operational data, and providing timely insights that support business decisions across the organization. While a foundational understanding of accounting and finance is important, exceptional Microsoft Excel proficiency, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are the primary qualifications for this position.

Primary duties will include:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, financial models, and reporting tools.
  • Analyze financial, operational, inventory, purchasing, and other business data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
  • Design and automate recurring reports, dashboards, and data summaries to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Consolidate, validate, and organize data from multiple systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Create meaningful visualizations and reporting that support executive decision-making.
  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to complete special projects, analyses, and ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes through automation, standardization, and enhanced reporting capabilities.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and other finance-related activities as needed.
  • Support data integrity by identifying discrepancies, researching issues, and recommending solutions.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to gather information and develop reporting solutions that meet business needs.
  • Maintain documentation for reports, templates, and reporting processes.
  • Stay current on Microsoft Excel features, reporting technologies, and best practices to continually improve reporting capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
    • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2โ€“5 years of experience in finance, accounting, business analysis, reporting, or another data-intensive business function.
  • Experience creating reports, dashboards, and analytical tools to support business decision-making.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and analyzing large volumes of business data is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex spreadsheets, reports, dashboards, and analytical tools.
  • Strong proficiency with PivotTables, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, IF statements, and advanced Excel formulas.
  • Experience organizing, validating, and analyzing large datasets with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to automate recurring reports and improve reporting efficiency using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across departments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Power Query.
  • Experience supporting finance, accounting, inventory, purchasing, or operations.
  • Experience developing KPI dashboards and management reports.
  • Manufacturing or distribution industry experience is a plus.
