Job description

Duties Description The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks to build an equitable, transparent, and resilient financial system that benefits individuals and supports business. Through engagement, data-driven regulation and policy, and operational excellence, the Department and its employees are responsible for empowering consumers and protecting them from financial harm; ensuring the health of the entities we regulate; driving economic growth in New York through responsible innovation; and preserving the stability of the global financial system. The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Financial Data Associate in the Entity Risk Management Unit.

This position is a senior-level analytics role responsible for overseeing the analysis of financial and data trends, ensuring data quality across the team, and guiding the agency's strategic direction on analytics solutions. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Coordinates the analysis of trends in data sources and the assessment of data structures; Reviews data sources and reports produced by lower-level staff for accuracy, completeness, and consistency; Conducts difficult and complex data analysis assignments; Meets with business areas to discuss and shape the agency's strategy for analytics solutions and data-driven decision-making; Coordinates or leads the development and evaluation of analytics solutions based on business requirements and available data sources; Oversees the drafting of informational and technical documents and materials on analytics solutions; Reviews current and planned systems and processes and recommends improvements to data quality, efficiency, reporting, and analytical capabilities; Supervises, mentors, and evaluates the performance of a team of analysts; Provides technical guidance and serves as an escalation point for complex data quality, analytical methodology, or data interpretation issues; Establishes and promotes appropriate standards for data analysis, reporting, documentation, and quality assurance; and Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.

Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in financial data analysis, with prior supervisory or lead experience preferred. Demonstrated expertise in data structure assessment, trend analysis, complex data analysis, and reporting accuracy and quality review. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting analytical findings and recommendations to business stakeholders.

Proficiency with data analytics and business intelligence tools, such as SQL, Excel/Power BI, Python, or similar technologies. Appointment Method: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be eligible for appointment. Non-Competitive: Nine years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

*Substitution: Associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for seven years of specialized experience

Additional Comments Please note that a change in negotiating unit may affect your salary, insurance and other benefits. Salary: The starting salary for this position is $106,898 with periodic increases up to $131,665 Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment. Appointment Status: Permanent Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
