Job description

Controller

Remote [within the US]

ABOUT THE ROLE:

HiddenLayer is hiring a Controller to own accounting end-to-end as the finance function scales. You'll report to the CFO and build the close, controls, and systems a growing business runs on. If you've wanted to take a company through external audit, modernize the finance stack, and own accounting in a SaaS business at this stage — this is that role.

WHO WE ARE:

HiddenLayer protects the world's most valuable technologies from adversarial AI attacks. We were founded by AI professionals and security specialists with first-hand experience of how insidious adversarial AI attacks can be to detect and defend against. Determined to prove that these attacks were preventable, the team developed a unique, patent-pending, productized solution to support organizations in accelerating their adoption of AI securely.

Our dedication to innovation has been recognized by prestigious awards such as RSA's Innovation Sandbox Winner, CB Insights AI 100, CyberTech 100, and SC's Most Promising Early-Stage Start-up.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Monthly close. You'll own close end-to-end — journal entries through published financials — with a target cadence of 10 business days monthly.
  • Audit readiness and external audit. You'll stand up documentation and controls for external audit, partner with the CFO on firm selection, and manage fieldwork through to a clean opinion.
  • The books. Full GL, AP, AR, treasury, payroll accounting, and revenue recognition. You'll have CFO partnership on technical accounting matters and external support available for heavier lifts (ASC 718, 340-40, SAFE conversion) as needed.
  • Finance systems. You'll own the finance systems roadmap — GL, AP, expense, and billing tooling — and lead evaluations and migrations as the business scales. We want someone who has opinions here.
  • Revenue recognition policy. SaaS subscription, some services, occasional non-standard deals, a reseller arrangement. You'll own the policy, review non-standard contracts before they close, and partner with RevOps on ARR tie-out.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 7+ years in accounting, with time as Controller or Assistant Controller at a Series A/B (or later) SaaS company
  • CPA
  • Personally owned monthly close in a SaaS business, with a track record of hitting a 10-business-day cadence
  • Been through external audit as the day-to-day internal lead
  • Executed at least one GL migration
  • Owned revenue recognition under ASC 606 in a SaaS environment, including non-standard deals
  • Fluent in SaaS financial metrics and reporting (ARR, deferred revenue, bookings-to-billings, gross margin by revenue type)
  • Worked effectively in a mostly-remote finance org
BONUS:
  • Big 4 or national firm early-career background
  • Experience with modern SaaS-native GLs (Rillet, Campfire, Sage Intacct, NetSuite)
  • Experience with Maxio, Chargebee, Stripe Billing, or similar
  • Prior exposure to federal customers (not GovCon — we do not have DCAA exposure)
  • Experience in cybersecurity, AI infrastructure, or adjacent
