Job description

Financial Controller | Energy and Critical Minerals | Phoenix, AZ

We're working with a PE backed industrial services company, funded by a globally recognized private equity firm, that's scaling up in the energy and critical minerals industry. The business is still pre-revenue as it moves from pilot operations toward its first commercial facility - this means this hire will be adding to the continued building of the finance and accounting function already established to create a scalable and sustainable business model.

This Financial Controller seat is both strategically oriented and hands-on! You'll own the day to day accounting function, while also being the person who designs the processes, systems, and controls that the company will run on as it scales. You will manage the current team and build out the team once established in their new HQ location.

Reporting to the CFO, you'll be a key partner to the executive team and PE Board in getting the finance infrastructure ready for a business that's about to grow quickly, and be on a succession plan into executive positioned roles in 2-3 years.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the accounting function and building out a finance and accounting team as the company scales.
  • Owning ERP implementation and driving automation across finance processes, while cross-collaborating with different departments and business units to ensure an air-tight accounting and finance function.
  • Supporting M&A activity, specifically leading the accounting and finance side of global acquisition integrations.
  • Establishing internal controls, financial policies, and reporting discipline appropriate for a business heading toward its first commercial operations.
  • Managing GAAP compliant financial statements and external audit relationships. Partnering with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning as the company scales.

Must haves:

  • ERP implementation and automation experience
  • Previous M&A experience, specifically leading or heavily involved in acquisition integrations
  • Experience building and managing an accounting and finance team, not just being part of one
  • Experience in a labor intensive, project based industry
  • IPO readiness or PE exit strategy experience is highly desirable

Strong preferences:

  • CPA
  • Energy or mining industry experience preferred, but flexible for any project-based industry experience given the labor intensive nature of the business
  • Public and private accounting experience, ideally including time at a Big 4 or top 10 audit firm, either in audit or advisory
  • Comfortable being onsite 3 - 5 days a week
  • Willing to relocate to a new out of state HQ within the next 1 to 2 years

If you've built a finance function from scratch, led the accounting side of acquisitions, and want to be part of scaling a business from pre-revenue into its next stage, let's talk!
