Job description

Description
Financial Controller
Horseshoe Bay Resort | Crescent Hotels & Resorts
Spanning more than 7,000 acres, Horseshoe Bay Resort, a premier destination, features world-class golf courses, a full-service marina, award-winning dining, exceptional spa and wellness experiences, and an array of year-round recreational activities that attract guests from across the country.
As Financial Controller, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at one of Texas' most iconic resort destinations. This is more than a leadership role in finance; it's a chance to partner with an experienced executive team, influence strategic business decisions, and help drive the financial success of a dynamic, full-service resort known for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to join a large, complex resort operation and serve as a key finance leader supporting day-to-day operations. This role functions as the right hand to the Director of Finance, combining deep accounting expertise with strong operational partnership across the property.
This is not a traditional back-office accounting role. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in resort or complex hospitality environments and thrives in a highly operational, multi-department setting-translating financial insight into actionable business results across the resort.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute month-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes with accuracy and timeliness
  • Oversee full accounting operations, including GL, AP/AR, payroll, income audit, and purchasing
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across multiple revenue streams
  • Manage audit, compliance, tax-related reporting, and internal control processes
  • Oversee cash flow, multi-entity financial activity, and capital planning initiatives
  • Act as a finance business partner to operational leaders (F&B, golf, spa, marina, lodging, membership, etc.)
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders
  • Drive process improvements across systems, reporting tools, and workflows
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across financial systems and reporting platforms
  • Mentor, develop, and lead accounting staff while fostering strong cross-functional collaboration

Operational Environment
This role supports a highly complex luxury resort with:
  • Multiple revenue streams and business lines
  • 40+ departments across the property
  • Diverse operations including hotel, spa, golf, marina, F&B outlets, membership, and residential components

Required Qualifications
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Prior experience as:
    • Controller OR
    • Assistant Controller OR
    • Senior Accounting Manager (within a hospitality/resort environment)
  • Direct hospitality experience required; resort experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Financial reporting (GAAP)
    • Month-end close processes
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Audit, compliance, and internal controls

Preferred Experience
  • Multi-unit or multi-outlet hospitality environments
  • Exposure to F&B, spa, golf, marina, or resort operations
  • Experience actively supporting operational leaders (not strictly corporate finance)
  • Familiarity with systems such as:
    • M3 (accounting system)
    • ProfitSword (BI/forecasting tool)
    • BirchStreet (procurement system)
    • Opera or similar PMS platforms

Key Competencies
  • Deep understanding of operational workflows and their financial impact
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and business partnership mindset
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance teams
  • Hands-on leadership style with a willingness to operate "in the weeds" while maintaining a strategic lens
  • Highly organized with strong execution, ownership, and follow-through

What Success Looks Like
  • Financial reporting is accurate, timely, and trusted-no surprises
  • Finance is actively driving business performance, not just reporting it
  • Strong, collaborative relationships exist across all resort departments
  • Accounting operations run smoothly with effective controls and processes
  • A high-performing, engaged accounting team is developed and retained

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $105,000 - $125,000 (flexibility based on experience)
  • Bonus: ~10% performance-based
  • Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match
  • Paid time off + holidays
  • Relocation assistance may be available

Why Join Horseshoe Bay Resort
  • High-impact leadership role within a premier, multi-revenue destination resort
  • Exposure to complex, multi-entity resort operations
  • Opportunity to influence both financial strategy and day-to-day operational performance
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with strong leadership visibility
  • Resort perks including discounts on dining, retail, and stays, plus access to amenities
