Your duties as a designer include creating new clothing designs. A patternmaker then translates the design style to a pattern for production by a factory or tailor. Marketing, buyers, and merchandising professionals focus on increasing sales through advertising, design choice, and presentation. If you work in retail, you help each customer or client choose clothes. You may have additional responsibilities, such as providing fashion consultation services.

What kinds of jobs are there in fashion?

Jobs in fashion include roles such as fashion designer, stylist, merchandiser, pattern maker, textile technician, and fashion buyer. These positions often require skills in creativity, trend analysis, and knowledge of fabrics and manufacturing processes, with many roles involving work in design studios, retail stores, or production facilities.

Why is Gen Z struggling to get jobs?

Gen Z faces challenges in securing fashion industry jobs due to high competition, limited entry-level positions, and the increasing demand for relevant skills such as social media marketing and digital design. Additionally, employers often seek candidates with internships or experience, which can be difficult for younger applicants to obtain without prior opportunities.

What are fashion designers?

Fashion designers are professionals who create clothing, accessories, and footwear, blending artistic vision with practical design skills. They research trends, select fabrics, sketch ideas, and oversee the production of their creations. Fashion designers may work for big brands, start their own labels, or create custom pieces for clients. Their work is influential in shaping how people express themselves through what they wear.

What careers can you do with fashion?

A career in fashion can include roles such as fashion designer, stylist, merchandiser, buyer, pattern maker, or fashion journalist. These roles often require creativity, knowledge of textiles and trends, and skills in design software or sewing. Opportunities exist in retail, manufacturing, media, and freelance work.
