Job description

The Fabric Worker will support a Naval Air Command program located at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, NJ. The Fabric Worker assists Journeyman and/or performs fabricating, assembling, modifying, and repairing various articles of fabric and other materials including Aircraft Emergency Recovery Barricades, Engines Inlet Screens and other special equipment covers.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance which requires U.S citizenship.

  • Knowledge of sewing, stitching and bonding techniques typically performed on heavy, industrial weight fabrics, using industrial equipment, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) sewing machines, manually operated sewing machines, and even hand-stitching if/when necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications (blueprint drawings, schematics, sketches) demonstrate technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Work from written or oral instructions. Willing to perform difficult and complex tasks. Possess knowledge of materials, measurement, and layout. Also, perform all other typical work of a fabric worker organization, time management, and multitasking.

  • Ability to operate standard high-speed industrial sewing machines, heat sealers and other machines specific to the project. Clean and perform machine maintenance, troubleshoot, and resolve malfunctions on commercial machines.

  • Operate hand tools (pliers, shears, hammers, gromet setters, searing scissors).

  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

  • Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sit for prolonged periods of time with continual movement of hands, arms, and fingers for sewing operations. Often handles pieces of fabric that are consistently heavy and bulky. Work involves continuous standing and walking on concrete floors, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above heads and occasionally working in irregular body postures while sewing. Lifting: This position has a requirement to lift 40lbs. - 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.

The estimated pay range for this role is $29 to $30 per hour, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
