HVACR Instructor

POLYTECH School District is seeking experienced candidates with strong interpersonal skills to join our high school team.  As a HVACR Teacher, you will carry out a variety of activities outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  
    Provide high quality standards-based and student-centered instruction to POLYTECH students. 
o    Consult with the program advisory committee for the purpose of evaluating and updating the curriculum and course of study.
o    Establish clear objectives for all units, lessons and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
o    Employ a variety of instructional techniques to address diverse student learning styles, needs and interests.
o    Use career-related and instructional technology to enhance student learning and expand learning opportunities.
o    Assess student learning on a regular basis, provide effective feedback to students and use data to inform adjustments to instruction and/or student supports.
o    Enter student attendance, grading and other required information in eSchoolPlus in a timely manner.
o    Supervise and prepare students for Career Technical Student Organization membership and events.
o    Collaborate with the CTE Coordinator to enhance and expand cooperative education opportunities.
o    Build partnerships with local businesses, unions, and industry stakeholders.
o    Track student progress toward technical competencies and industry certifications.
    Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
o    Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and culturally sensitive manner.
o    Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
o    Demonstrate and model respect for individuals and responsible citizenship. 
o    Integrate industry-recognized curriculum including NCCER Core and NCCER HVACR Level 1 competencies
o    Supervise and support students during lab activities, service projects, and work-based learning experiences
    Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
    Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.
    Participate in IEP and 504 plan meetings for assigned students.
    Complete all Delaware Teacher Growth and Support System (DTGSS) forms and processes in a timely manner.
    Participate in all required professional learning programs.
    Comply with federal and state regulations and district policies.
    Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
    Other duties as assigned.
























Essential Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited 4 year college or university OR two (2) years of college or technical training, plus six (6) years of work experience in accordance with Delaware Professional Standards Board regulations (14 DE Admin. Code 1559). 1559 Skilled and Technical Sciences Teacher (delaware.gov). 
Licensure and Certification: Must meet Delaware requirements for teaching licensure and subject area certification(s) in accordance with Delaware Professional Standards Board regulations (14 DE Admin. Code 1500). https://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title14/1500/index.shtml
    EPA Section 608 Certification required
    OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification (preferred)
    Journeyperson or Master HVACR license preferred





Experience:
    Minimum of six (6) years work experience related to HVACR, or related vocational field(s); two (2) of which must be within the last five (5) years; or a minimum of six (6) years of work experience by teaching in or direct supervision of educators in a related area, two (2) of which must be within the last five (5) years.
    Experience with residential and/or commercial HVACR systems
    Knowledge of electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, piping, ductwork, and troubleshooting
    Experience developing and delivering blended learning instruction courses in Schoology or similar learning management system (preferred).
    Experience teaching or interacting with high school students (preferred).




Essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors:
    Plan and implement lessons based on state standards; district and school objectives; assigned students' needs and abilities and current educational research and theory.
    Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
    Foster a stimulating and accepting learning environment. 
    Write, speak, and interact clearly and professionally.
    Analyze student data to inform instructional adjustments and identify student needs.
    Read, analyze and interpret professional literature and federal and state guidance documents.
    Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, administrators, and staff members.  
    Perform effectively in environments with competing demands. 
    Use eSchoolPLUS (pupil accounting software) for student attendance and grades. 
    Proficient use of technology including Microsoft Office applications and educational software.









Terms of Employment:  
    This is a full-time, ten-month position.  
    This position reports to the administrator responsible for the Electronics Engineering Technology program.
    Successful completion of Criminal Background Check, Tuberculosis Test (PPD), and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to start of employment.
    Salary will be calculated in accordance with the verified educational level and work experience of the selected candidate and in accordance with the district's Teacher Salary Scale.  
    Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
