What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Executive Mapping Designer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Executive Mapping Designer, you need expertise in data visualization, cartography, and spatial analysis, typically supported by a degree in geography, GIS, or a related field. Proficiency with mapping software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and data management systems is essential, along with relevant GIS certifications. Strong project management, communication, and analytical thinking skills help designers effectively collaborate with stakeholders and present complex information clearly. These skills are crucial for producing accurate, visually compelling maps that inform executive decision-making and drive business strategy.

How does an Executive Mapping Designer typically collaborate with leadership teams during the project lifecycle?

Executive Mapping Designers work closely with organizational leaders to understand strategic goals and translate them into effective visual mapping solutions. Throughout a project, they facilitate workshops, gather feedback, and present draft maps to ensure alignment with executive vision. This collaborative approach ensures that mapping outputs are both visually compelling and strategically relevant.

Job description

Your role in our mission We are hiring a Senior Content Designer to lead UX writing and content design for critical user flows on our Personal Loan and Core experiences. You will play a pivotal role in defining and optimizing the customer journey, especially across the first touchpoints a customer has with Prosper. This hybrid role requires deep expertise in design thinking, strategic planning, and UX writing. You will function as a design thinking practitioner and customer champion who thrives on solving problems, exploring growth opportunities, testing hypotheses, and translating business-centric language into user-centric content. You ensure every word across our products contributes to clarity, comprehension, and ease for the user. You will partner closely with Product Management and Engineering to optimize the customer journey from arrival to conversion, ensuring our solutions are scalable, efficient, and user-centric.
How you'll make an impact
What you'll do
  • Content Design: Plan and write clear, concise interface content for mobile and web experiences. Design simple, intuitive product experiences that help users accomplish their goals.

  • Collaboration: From discovery through delivery and optimization, partner closely with product designers, UX researchers, product managers, and other SMEs and stakeholders.

  • Content systems: Contribute to developing, maintaining, and enforcing copy guidelines, brand voice and tone, and generative AI guidelines and tools.

  • User advocacy: Use qualitative insights and data to inform content choices and advocate for user needs. Assist with conducting user research.

  • Inclusivity: Ensure all content is accessible and usable by people with disabilities, following WCAG 2.2 guidelines.

  • Research & Discovery: Conduct/review qualitative and quantitative user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing) to uncover deep user needs and pain points, and perform competitive analysis and market research to identify opportunities and industry trends.

  • Strategic Planning & Vision: Help to shape the overarching user experience vision and product strategy, ensuring it aligns with the company's business objectives.

  • Mapping & Concepting: Create foundational UX deliverables like user personas, empathy maps, journey maps, and service blueprints.

  • Stakeholder Alignment & Advocacy: Act as the bridge between design, product management, engineering, and executive leadership, facilitate workshops (like design sprints or journey mapping sessions) to align cross-functional teams, and advocate for the user continuously, ensuring business requirements don't overshadow user experience.

Skills that will help you thrive
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience with a Bachelors degree, or 6+ years of experience with a Masters degree.
  • Experience focused on UX content design and shaping content for multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Exceptional writing/editing and verbal communication skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free content.

  • Strong, demonstrated understanding of design thinking and user-centered design methodologies.

  • Experience collaborating with UX design and research teams to develop and improve user experiences.

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts and regulatory requirements into clear, user-friendly language.

  • Experience with or strong interest in artificial intelligence and a desire to learn and grow in this rapidly evolving field.

  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, agile environment, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing content challenges and business growth opportunities.

  • Ability to understand business models, revenue streams, and market dynamics.

  • Comfort working with data, analytics platforms, and balancing quantitative data with qualitative insights.

  • Exceptional storytelling, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Deep expertise in design thinking methodologies and workshop facilitation.

  • Nice to have: Proficiency with Figma (including working with autolayout and components).

Resources to help you prosper
  • A hybrid connection: We believe in the "best of both worlds" - a hybrid environment (2 days/week in our SF office) that balances high-touch collaboration with the flexibility of remote work
  • Invested in your future: A competitive salary and a 401(k) with a 5% company match to help you build long-term financial security
  • Holistic well-being: We provide the resources you need to thrive, from flexible time off and paid parental leave to an annual wellness allowance and comprehensive health coverage
  • Professional & personal growth: Take advantage of a suite of premium perks, including Udemy access, childcare assistance, pet insurance, and a bevy of additional savings through Beneplace

Interview Process
  • Recruiter Call: A brief screening to discuss your experience and initial questions.
  • Department Interview: Deeper dive into technical skills and project alignment with the Hiring Manager or team member.
  • Case Study Round: Analyze a real-world problem, propose solutions, and present findings, evaluating analytical, strategic thinking, and presentation skills.
