Job description

Project Executive – Mechanical

Highland Consulting Group is an executive recruiting firm specializing in top talent for the commercial and industrial construction sectors.

We are partnering with one of the largest and most respected mechanical contractors in the Pittsburgh, PA area to fill an immediate Project Executive opening. This senior leadership role is responsible for key areas of company performance, including business development, client relations, operations, and finance. The position reports directly to senior management, oversees multiple Project Managers, and offers the opportunity to mentor and develop the project management team.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage Project Managers and ensure work is completed successfully and profitably.
  • Mentor, motivate, and support ongoing training for the Project Management staff.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Accounting to prepare and review WIP reports.
  • Oversee and review financial budgets and costs for active projects.
  • Ensure all contractual commitments are met and handled professionally.
  • Manage company resources, including support personnel, materials, and equipment.
  • Oversee project closeout, including punch list inspections with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and owner’s representative, and ensure all punch list items are addressed with the appropriate subcontractors.
  • Assemble and maintain complete project records and closeout documents.
  • Maintain relationships with past clients to support repeat business.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the confidence and judgment to take decisive action, achieve successful project closeouts, and maintain positive team relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a strong understanding of contract and legal provisions that affect project profitability.
  • Ability to lead productive, multidisciplinary meetings.
  • A stable, verifiable track record of project management success is required. Candidates should have at least 10 years of Project Manager experience with a mechanical contractor, including experience managing Project Managers.
  • A four-year degree is required; Engineering or a related discipline is preferred. A master’s degree in business or engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Strong experience with budget control, WIP reports, GMP contracts, and project financial controls.
  • Sound judgment to know when to escalate issues or step in to help solve problems.

Regional work with little to no travel required.
