Job description


Shenandoah University's Payroll Department is accepting applications for a Payroll Specialist. This is a salaried, benefitted position located in the Bowman building in Winchester, VA.
The Payroll Specialist position is a member of the Finance team and is responsible for processing payroll for employees and maintaining the integrity of the payroll liability accounts. The Payroll Specialist is required to work effectively across the University community, frequently responding to inquiries or exchanging information while performing this position.
Responsibilities:
  • Processes assigned student payroll cycles, reviews student timecards, maintains employee tax withholding compliance, and serves as the primary point of contact for student employees and their supervisors, as well as other payroll-related tasks as assigned.
  • Compiles, processes and validates bi-weekly payrolls; checks and adjusts payroll calculations to ensure payment to all employees is accurate and timely.
  • Prepares payroll reports by collecting, analyzing, summarizing, and balancing information from timekeeping system
  • Receives, processes, and maintains records on various payroll issues such as garnishments and benefits deduction adjustments. Reconciles all payroll records as necessary. Processes pay
  • Adjustments, and other payroll actions as necessary.

  • Ability to handle information in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently, handle large volumes of work, determine daily priorities and multi-task with frequent interruptions.

Required Qualifications:
  • This entry-level position requires a Bachelor's Degree from four-year College or University. Bi-lingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in a college or university environment
