Responsible for assisting providers with patient care, which also includes clerical or other environmental responsibilities within the offices as deemed necessary. The medical assistant utilizes technology set in place for scheduling patient appointments, preparing medical records and documenting appropriate information in the electronic medical record. They provide guidance and instruct patients as per the medical provider directives.

    • Deliver quality/evidence-based patient care.
    • Engage patients, patients' families and their caregivers in understanding, setting and monitoring patient self-management care plans in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate to the patient and caregiver.
    • Develop and maintain relationships among patients and their families and care team that supports their access to the medical home.
    • Provide timely communication with patients, make inquiries, execute follow-up actions and help to integrate information into the plan of care.
    • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance to the provider's directives and the MA's scope of practice.
    • Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of exam rooms and stocks necessary supplies or materials needed throughout the workday.
    • Use case management processes to assure quality care is delivered to the Practice's patients, the patients' families and caregivers in the most efficient and effective manner across the healthcare continuum.
Competencies & Skills
Essential:
  • Knowledge of general principles of medical assisting, federal and state regulations and standard practice and procedures that are within the standard scope of practice for the medical assistant.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of the medical assisting practice to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in health information management and use of an electronic medical record system
Nonessential:
  • Strong working knowledge of the function and use of electronic health records
  • Knowledge of HEDIS/Star measures
  • Knowledge of medical insurance, billing and coding (including ICD-10).
