Job description

What You'll Do:

As an Associate Area Manager (AAM), you will maximize the profitability of a Valvoline Instant Oil Change market area by developing a team to deliver and execute VIOC's processes consistently, creating a quick, easy, trusted customer experience. The Area Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the Service Centers in the Area and achieves this by leading, coaching, and developing Service Center Managers and their teams. Area Managers support the operations and growth of their Area by identifying leaders capable of managing all aspects of an automotive service business and assisting them to create a fun, performance driven culture aligned with VIOC's vision and values.

An Associate Area Manager typically has a store count of less than five, or may be an entry-level Area Manager who is learning the role.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Build and support a high-performance team capable of differentiating VIOC's service experience from all other service providers. Identify talent and teach Service Center Managers to build, manage, and motivate highly successful teams within their stores while creating a strong culture and reducing turnover. Lead succession planning and employee development within their Area to ensure all locations have sufficient key holders, bench strength, and high-performing employees.
  • Manage area profit plans ($500M to $1MM) by teaching Service Center Managers to execute the SuperPro process consistently, increase revenues ($4MM - $8MM area level) and plan/manage all store-level expenses. Requires operational expertise and knowledge of financial statements (balance sheet and P&L), key performance indicators, sales growth, budgeting, labor utilization, claims, and inventory management.
  • Build a loyal customer base by preparing and motivating employees to deliver a superior automotive experience built on trust and the utmost professionalism. This is accomplished by training employees (train-the-trainer) to execute VIOC's proprietary operating system (SuperPro) flawlessly and connecting them to the importance of their role in the customer process. Manage claims (directly and teach SCMs) to ensure customer loyalty and minimize the impact on profitability.
  • In collaboration with corporate groups, ensure team knowledge and compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws. Requires ability to train store personnel and monitor compliance of Operations, EHS, and HR standards as set forth by Valvoline/VIOC's subject matter experts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree (work experience may replace formal education)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of Retail Management experience with a demonstrated track record of success in building teams and financial metrics that meet or exceed expectations
  • SuperPro training through SCM role
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Company and its insurers, subject to verification by the Company at its discretion
  • Drive profitable growth
  • Alignment and accountability
  • Create a high-performance culture
  • Consistent demonstration of the ideal team player virtues - humble, hungry, smart
  • Must have full body mobility and be able to twist, turn, bend at the waist, squat, and go up and down stairs
  • Use of various automotive mechanical tools and POS computer system
