To thrive as an Entry Level 1099 Software Developer Contractor, you generally need foundational programming skills (such as in Java, Python, or JavaScript), a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience, and a basic understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello), and cloud platforms is common, and some clients may require knowledge of specific frameworks or APIs. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are important soft skills in this independent contractor role. What unique challenges should I expect as an entry level 1099 software developer contractor compared to a full-time employee?

As an entry level 1099 software developer contractor, you'll need to manage your own taxes, benefits, and sometimes equipment, as independent contractors typically do not receive these from clients. You may work with multiple clients simultaneously, requiring strong time management and communication skills to juggle different projects effectively. Building a strong portfolio and network is crucial for long-term success in this role.
