H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm with offices in NY, NJ and CT seeks a dynamic Municipal Practice Leader to grow, develop, support and enhance our services work in a Doer-Seller role.The successful candidate will provide project management expertise, business development, client relationship management and coordination of municipal civil engineering services within our Windsor, CT office. They will be responsible for strategically growing business development efforts along with leading and supporting projects and growing a civil team to support the work. 

Job Responsibilities: 

Business Development/Operations/Project Management Responsibilities 

  • Grow, develop and lead H2M civil engineering related initiatives to expand and diversify the company’s municipal client base; collaborate with others on the development of clients and business development opportunities.
  • Work with market/BD/discipline leaders within the firm to further develop and enhance client relationships with municipalities.  Support the development and performance of projects across various other H2M markets (education, energy, water/wastewater, public agencies, real estate).
  • Maintain and develop relationships with a diverse group of existing and prospective clients; utilize the resources of H2M staff as internal contacts for new leads when suitable; operate in a team environment collaborating with others on the development of clients and business opportunities.
  • Collaborates with civil discipline leadership and provides direction to staff in the pursuit and delivery of new work for the real estate market and discipline.
  • Provides technical leadership and oversight on the management on projects; works with other managers, civil engineers, landscape architects, environmental planners, and staff in developing scope of work, budgets, schedules, and plans for civil related work.
  • Motivate, manage and mentor civil staff in CT and other areas to support the growth of the civil discipline.  Commit time to understanding overall discipline/market performance drivers.   
  • Performs and manages municipal civil engineering projects and secures entitlements and plan approvals from agencies having jurisdictions. 
  • Responsible for the successful financial performance of projects managed. 
  • Respond to requests of others as needed and set up a communication protocol for existing and future clients to ensure expectations are met.  This includes communication with project managers within the discipline/market.   
  • Participate in trade shows and be active in industry/relevant associations, including but not limited to, serving on committees, etc.   
  • Prepare/coordinate proposals in conjunction with the marketing and technical staff.  Assist with “Go/No Go” decisions for responding to RFP’s. Marshall the necessary resources on proposal opportunities which may involve developing a proposal strategy, writing portions of the proposal, and coordinating efforts of other technical writers to develop a winning proposal.    
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed to ensure the success of civil-site projects and business development efforts. 

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required. 
  • Must be a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut. 
  • Min. 15+ years of demonstrated managerial-level, civil site engineering, land development, and project management experience of mid to large-scale projects. This experience should include previous business development experience and demonstrated ability to grow and manage client relations (serving internal/external clients). 
  • Must be able to generate new business from existing and new clients. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of seller/doer business model with public sector clients.  
  • Ability to coordinate resource needs for municipal civil engineering project success and work collaboratively with teams in multiple disciplines and offices. 
  • Strong technical background in stormwater management, and local municipal infrastructure design.  
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Connecticut state, county and local municipal regulations and requirements which impact land development entitlements and permitting.  
  • Must have strong management/supervisory skills to lead a group of technical staff at various levels. 
  • Ability to effectively delegate responsibilities when necessary to marshal proposals, keep existing clients satisfied and help find new work. 
  • Knowledge of MS suite including Word, Excel, Power Point. 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop/deliver presentations to groups. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $170,000 annually.
