They may have a background in engineering or construction management. Typically, they manage all aspects of the progress and the day-to-day operations on a construction site. In manufacturing, project engineers work with both the design and the engineering teams to develop and manage a manufacturing process, including overseeing the budget and deliverables. All project engineering positions require industry-specific technical knowledge and management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Project Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, project management, and a relevant engineering degree. • Expedite internal and external actions needed to support customer demand, including follow-up with Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and outside vendors.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate project plans, status trackers, and milestone updates to support successful execution of SpaceX programs.
  • Coordinate internally to ensure customer specifications, schedule requirements, and priority changes are understood and acted upon across the business.
  • Monitor production flow and identify bottlenecks, shortages, or schedule risks; escalate issues quickly and help drive resolution plans.
  • Support engineering and operational project work by coordinating tasks, gathering updates, documenting progress, and helping keep projects on schedule.
  • Partner with Quality to coordinate customer inspections, documentation needs, and readiness for shipment in accordance with specifications.
  • Maintain accurate data in tracking systems and ERP tools, ensuring status, commitments, and action items are current and visible to stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and customer-facing updates related to schedules, part movement, open actions, and program performance.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to support process execution, troubleshoot issues affecting delivery, and help balance customer expectations with internal capabilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
