Job description

Engineering – Controls Project Engineer

Position Summary:

This position requires an individual that can design custom control systems that integrate well with our client's equipment and manufacturing processes that provide optimum solutions. This candidate will report to the Controls Engineering Manager, but will also work closely with other Controls Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Assemblers, and Project Management to create functional controls systems.
Daily activities will involve:
- Managing assigned project(s) from definition through manufacturing, testing and startup, in a manner that meets customer acceptance criteria within the given time frame

- Collaborating with both internal and external Project Managers, Engineers and other resources to understand project scope, and define and document changes as needed

- Driving project schedules while working closely with design and construction to ensure milestones and completion dates are on track

- Developing programming for PLC's, Servos and HMI's for PAI equipment. Some projects will be able to utilize old code from previous projects as a starting point, but most will require the ability to program from scratch

- Giving direction to Electro-Mech Techs/Electrical Assemblers on where and how to mount sensors and other control devices, route cables and cable trays, etc

- Developing basic documents for equipment operation and training use

- Starting up equipment in PAI shop and participate in customer inspections (aka FAT or VAT)

- Leading and/or supporting start-up of equipment at the customer site (note travel requirement below)

Additional responsibilities may include:

- Creating bills of materials (BOM's) and ordering parts required for projects

- Creating or editing ACAD-Electrical drawings and schematics as needed

- Assisting Sales and Applications with controls scope of projects as needed

- Assisting the Controls Estimator with project estimates

- Possible R&D Team participation

Basic Requirements:

-2 to 5 years of experience with design, programming and implementation of the following:

- Rockwell Control Logix & Guard Logix PLCs

- HMIs (Studio 5000 ME with some knowledge of SE)

- Kinetix motion controllers and drives

- AC & DC drives

- Technical Degree
- Other basic computer skills (Word, Excel)
- Must be able to balance personal workloads to meet changing deadlines

- Must be willing to travel (Approximately 15%-20% travel for startup assistance is REQUIRED)


Preferred Experience:

- Knowledge and or experience with non-Rockwell software and components would be a plus but is not required

- Basic ACAD schematic drawing or ACAD Electrical package experience would be a plus
