JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under the direction of the Automation Manager, the Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and managing all aspects of our automation and electrical control systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded from time to time to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and housekeeping standards, as well as quality procedures and practices.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Design and layout control cabinets for industrial equipment, including load sizing, and electrical schematic creation.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Develop and support control systems for industrial equipment, including PLC programming, HMI programming, and integration with robotic systems and control networks.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Program and commission servo controllers and closed-loop electro-hydraulic positioners. Design control systems for mechanical, hydraulic, compressor, and pump-based manufacturing equipment.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Oversee installation and commissioning of PLC-based hardware and software systems, ensuring alignment with design and performance standards.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Identify, procure, and integrate industrial equipment and automation technologies for engineering projects.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Assist in the design of tools and fixtures to support production and automation needs.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Support maintenance personnel when troubleshooting programs, electrical circuits, and mechanical systems. Including after-hours support when necessary. After-hours on-call support rotates between employees in the automation department.

โ€ข ย  ย Drive improvements in manufacturing process performance and product quality.ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Create and maintain standards, procedures, manuals, and technical documentation for engineering projects.ย 


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:ย

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:ย 
Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a four-year college/university and 5+ years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must have experience programming Allen-Bradley PLCs. Additional experience with Siemens or Beckhoff PLCs, Fanuc or KUKA robotic systems, Rexroth motors and drives, and AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.ย 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:ย 
Must be able to communicate effectively with team members to share information, resolve issues, and provide training to less experienced employees. Provide reports on active projects to keep team members up to date. This includes writing professional emails, keeping an up-to-date calendar, and using Microsoft Teams for meetings, chats, and collaboration.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:ย 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.ย 
ย 
REASONING ABILITY:ย 
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. ย Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
ย 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:ย 
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Reading and applying technical documents like data sheets, white papers, and operation manuals for components used on industrial equipment. Requires a broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices.
