Job information
This Associate role sits on LGT Capital Partners' dedicated Primaries Team in San Francisco and is designed for an investment professional who can help drive fund investing activity across North American private equity. The position combines market coverage, manager relationship development, investment underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and selective client engagement.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead core aspects of deal origination, screening, and underwriting for North American buyout and growth equity fund opportunities, supporting the team in identifying attractive managers and investment themes across the market.
  • Shared coverage of U.S. primaries, with particular focus on technology, the West Coast, and impact, while developing informed views on market trends, manager pipelines, and sector dynamics.
  • Source opportunities and build relationships with both established and emerging managers, maintaining active dialogue with sponsors and industry participants to strengthen the firm's market access and visibility.
  • Support the evaluation and execution of new fund opportunities through diligence, financial and qualitative analysis, investment memoranda preparation, and internal recommendation processes. Key responsibilities include intake, screening, and logging of incoming opportunities as well as initial diligence and information collection.
  • Contribute to the development of the broader U.S. private equity primaries strategy by sharing market intelligence, helping shape coverage priorities, and identifying areas of thematic opportunity.
  • Help originate co-investment and secondary opportunities through existing GP relationships, ensuring strong coordination across adjacent investment strategies and maximizing the value of sponsor connectivity.
  • Work with sponsors across the value chain, including co-investments, secondaries, and credit, to identify opportunities for deeper partnership and broader platform engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with co-investment, secondary, and credit colleagues to coordinate coverage, share diligence insights, and present a cohesive approach to GP relationship management.
  • Support efforts to position LGT Capital Partners as a preferred long-term partner to GPs through thoughtful coverage, consistent engagement, and high-quality execution.
  • Support portfolio monitoring activities for existing fund investments by tracking performance developments, preparing updates, and helping assess portfolio positioning over time.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and prepare portfolio updates for internal stakeholders, including investment developments, manager performance, and key portfolio events.
  • Partner with co-investment and secondary colleagues where portfolio insights overlap, ensuring a coordinated view of sponsor relationships and underlying investment exposures.
  • Contribute to selected client and prospective investor interactions by helping communicate the team's strategy, portfolio positioning, and investment perspective in a clear and credible manner.
  • Participate in fundraising and client pitch efforts by helping prepare materials, contribute investment content, and respond to diligence questions as needed.
  • Support or participate in investment update meetings with clients, helping present portfolio developments and answer questions on the underlying strategy.
  • Represent the team at industry conferences and firm events to support market intelligence gathering, relationship development, and broader brand presence.

Requirements
Ideal Candidate Profile/Qualifications
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in U.S. private equity at a GP or LP, investment banking, consulting, or a closely related analytical environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information and communicate conclusions clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborative, low-ego team player who is also able to manage workstreams independently, take ownership of deliverables, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams, investment strategies, and offices, building effective working relationships with colleagues and external counterparties.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to build polished materials and support analytical workstreams efficiently.
  • Comfort with using AI-enabled tools and technology resources in a thoughtful, responsible, and productivity-enhancing manner.
