Job Summary: The Elevator Repair Apprentice is a five-year voluntary, apprenticeship program to become a state licensed Certified Elevator Technician through a Federal Bureau of Apprentice and Training approved program consisting of on-the-job learning and course instruction.
Additional Department Summary: Must be able to be on call, be accessible by phone when on call, and report to work within one hour of being called. Must work shift work and overtime as scheduled, sometimes with short or no notice. Closely observes and adheres to all safety rules and regulations as listed on product and equipment labels and as directed by management. Leaves work site clean and orderly. Ensures that all tools and equipment are cleaned and materials are secured.
Performs work in accordance with the proper and applicable guides and manuals. Logs completed work on the proper equipment guides, logbooks, PM repair logs, on the job training logs, classwork logs, and timesheets. Performs all associated administrative work, such as time and attendance, work order processing, ordering and receiving proper parts, and communications with required vendors, manufacturers, and other related trades and departments. Follows all UA and UA Elevator Shop policies and procedures.
Apprentices must attend and complete all classroom training and testing required under the apprenticeship program. Classes are up to 9 hours a week. Mandatory related instructional classes will be completed after work hours. NOTE: Apprentices will not be paid for hours spent on apprenticeship program classes or study.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of elevator experience; OR high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of electrical or electronic experience.
Applicants with sufficient relevant work experience or equivalent industry training may qualify to enter the program at the Advanced Curriculum (AET Designation) level upon approval by the NAEC Education Committee.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of the use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.
Preferred Qualifications: Degree or certification in electrical maintenance. Experience troubleshooting and making repairs on AC/DC motors and motor control circuits; relay and/or solid state/microprocessor control circuits; hydraulic systems and valves; and mechanical systems in general.
