Full Time Elevator Worker - Plains, KS
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as an Elevator Worker at our grain facility in Plains, Kansas. This role is integral to the daily operations of grain receiving, handling, drying, and shipping. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced agricultural setting with opportunities for advancement.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Grain Receiving and Shipping:
    • Operate equipment to safely and efficiently load and unload trucks and railcars carrying grain commodities.
    • Open and close truck and railcar hatches, operate loading spouts, and ensure product is transferred without contamination.
    • Perform visual inspections of incoming grain and report quality concerns (e.g., moisture, foreign material, odors).
  • Grain Drying Operations:
    • Monitor, operate, and adjust grain dryers to achieve optimal drying conditions.
    • Record grain temperatures and moisture readings.
    • Follow protocols for transitioning grain from wet to dry storage.
  • Grain Handling and Storage Operations:
    • Move grain between silos, bins, or other storage using automated conveyor systems, augers, and elevators.
    • Monitor grain condition during storage (temperature, moisture, insect activity) and alert supervisor of any concerns.
    • Assist with blending grain as directed to meet customer specifications.
  • Facility Housekeeping:
    • Maintain clean work areas by sweeping, shoveling, vacuuming, and using compressed air or other cleaning equipment.
    • Regularly clean grain pits, receiving areas, loadout zones, and work platforms to prevent buildup and ensure operational safety.
  • Routine Maintenance Support:
    • Perform general maintenance duties such as greasing bearings, changing belts, tightening bolts, or replacing filters.
    • Inspect equipment for wear or damage and report needed repairs to maintenance staff.
    • Note: Maintenance experience is preferred but not required-on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to ADM's environmental health and safety policies, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazard reporting.
    • Participate in regular safety training and contribute to a proactive safety culture.
    • Assist in emergency response procedures, drills, and incident reporting when necessary.
Job Requirements:
  • Strong commitment to ADM's Zero Injury Culture and adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance is essential.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Standing or walking for prolonged periods (up to 12 hours).
    • Climbing stairs, ladders, and working at elevated heights.
    • Working in confined spaces and variable weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust, etc.).
    • Bending, kneeling, lifting, or moving materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Wearing a respirator when required.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing in a team-oriented environment.
  • Positive and professional attitude; respect for coworkers, supervisors, and company policies.
  • Ability to work near or around dry and liquid fertilizers.
  • Ability to safely operate power industrial equipment (e.g., forklifts, skid steers, etc.-training provided).

  • Maintenance Experience: Preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Work Environment: This position involves working in a variety of conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise. Proper PPE will be provided.
