What is an EDI executive?

EDI Executives are professionals responsible for managing and overseeing the electronic data interchange (EDI) processes within a company. They ensure seamless and secure transmission of business documents, such as invoices and purchase orders, between organizations and their trading partners. EDI Executives coordinate with IT and business teams to implement, troubleshoot, and optimize EDI systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and partner requirements. Their role helps improve efficiency, accuracy, and communication in supply chain and business operations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an EDI executive?

To thrive as an EDI Executive, you need a solid understanding of electronic data interchange (EDI) standards, data mapping, and supply chain processes, typically supported by a relevant degree or EDI certifications. Familiarity with EDI platforms (like SPS Commerce or IBM Sterling), ERP systems, and data integration tools is crucial. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you coordinate between technical teams and business partners effectively. These skills ensure efficient and accurate electronic transactions, supporting seamless business operations and partner relationships.

Job description

Company:

David creates tools to increase muscle and decrease fat. Our first product is a protein bar. More broadly, David is a platform to develop high-protein, low-calorie, blood-sugar-friendly foods that are craveable.

This is a rare opportunity to join a breakout food brand at a pivotal stage of growth. Led by CEO Peter Rahal, Cofounder and Former CEO of RXBAR, David is working to become the leading consumer food brand focused on high-protein foods in North America and beyond.

Role Overview:

The EDI Manager owns the systems connections that allow David's retail business to scale. As David expands across mass, club, grocery, and distributor channels, every new account, distribution center, and co-manufacturer adds a data connection that has to work perfectly for our products to move. This job has two halves and you will do both: you will sit in the raw data resolving the exception holding up today's shipments, and you will own the vision for what David's data infrastructure looks like three years from now. You will lead trading partner onboarding and certification, own the integrations between our ERP, warehouse, and transportation systems, set the architecture that ties them together, and build the master data discipline and automation that keep orders flowing as the account base grows.

Key Responsibilities:

Order Flow and Exception Management

  • Own the daily transaction queue end to end, including triaging and troubleshooting
  • Diagnose across the full stack: partner X12, connector configuration, ERP master data, pricing, and warehouse handoff
  • Convert recurring failures into preventive policy or configuration fixes, not one-off repairs
  • Replace manual workarounds across order ingestion, acknowledgment, and invoicing with automated flows
  • Build the monitoring and reporting that tracks stuck orders, aging exceptions, ingestion cycle time, and partner compliance

Trading Partner Onboarding & Certification

  • Run onboarding end to end, including trade requests, specifications, configuration, testing, certification, and go-live
  • Keep third-party testing and certification projects on schedule
  • Seed the customer, DC, item, and pricing records a new partner needs ahead of go-live
  • Expand document coverage into new transaction sets as partner requirements grow

Integrations, Architecture, and Vendor Management

  • Own the trading partner integration architecture: which documents flow where, what runs as EDI versus API, and where system-of-record boundaries sit
  • Scope new partner and warehouse connections with the NetSuite & Integrations team, who own the connector and iPaaS layer
  • Own vendor relationships across the stack

Documentation & Master Data Ownership

  • Build reusable onboarding playbooks - document partner specifications, configurations, mapping logic, master data conventions, and troubleshooting runbooks
  • Supply the transaction-level evidence behind compliance and deduction disputes
  • Own the customer, DC hierarchy, item cross-reference, GTIN and UPC key, and price level data every document depends on

Requirements

  • 3+ years owning EDI in a CPG, food, or consumer products environment selling through mass, club, grocery, and distributor channels
  • Deep fluency in ANSI X12 - you can read a raw envelope, interpret a rejected acknowledgment, and determine whether the problem is ours or the partner's
  • Hands-on experience across retail and grocery transactions (850, 855, 856, 810, 860, 997, 875, 880) and warehouse transactions (940, 943, 945)
  • Direct NetSuite experience, specifically with EDI connectors and the customer, item, and pricing records they depend on. Comfort querying NetSuite data directly is a strong plus
  • Experience with Orderful's EDI platform preferred
  • Experience managing implementation consultants and platform vendors, and a willingness to push back on them
  • Clear communication with non-technical partners - you can explain why an order did not flow to someone who does not know what an 856 is
  • Interest in building a brand with a mission to increase muscle and decrease fat

Benefits

  • This is a full-time role.
  • Compensation: $100 - 125k per year. The compensation range is inclusive of bonus.
  • Company equity opportunity
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Additional perks such as fully covered gym expenses
  • Substantial and required PTO
  • We work in the office 5 days per week in New York City - when culture lines up, it is fun to be in the office together.
