Job Description

Responsible for supporting the development and integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainability policies, reporting and insights. On integration, make active and meaningful contribution to ensuring that all three pillars of the Group Sustainability strategy are working in an integrated manner to amplify impact, and tell a coherent story.

On reporting, support the coordination, understanding and preparation of Sustainability reporting requirements. These would include the Sustainability & Climate reports as well as the ESG data and Disclosure booklet, contribute to ratings agency reporting and any external reporting required as part of Alliances or bodies Old Mutual has signed up to. Support improvements in data accuracy and collection, and contribute to making reporting more seamless and part of business-as-usual within Old Mutual.

Regarding Policy Development, support the identification of areas of deficient policy within the Group in relation to the requirements of ESG standard setters and the Group's own ambitions; contributing to the drafting and rollout of these in conjunction with relevant policy owners.

Key Result Areas:Reporting & Integration
  • Support the production of reporting requirements related to Sustainability. These would include the Sustainability & Climate reports, as well as the ESG data and Disclosure booklet, ensuring compliance with key frameworks (GRI, SASB, JSE, IFRS S1 and S2, King V)

  • Support the identification of material issues and emerging ESG trends

  • Support the Risk function in identifying ESG risks and reputational impacts

  • Support the integration of reporting and sustainability strategy to help meet reporting requirements for the board and Exco

  • Support stakeholders across the Group on alignment with key reporting frameworks, regulations and legislation. Support execution of the data and analytics reporting plan, and contribute to the development of templates to collect, validate, analyse and report data in a meaningful way.

  • Support internal assurance processes for ESG disclosures

  • Contribute to driving improvements in disclosures, ratings from relevant agencies

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to support alignment across the three pillars of the Group Sustainability strategy and help tell a coherent story

  • Provide input into the review of the Sustainability strategy

Policy Development
  • Contribute to the identification of areas of deficient policy within the Group in relation to the requirements of ESG standard setters and the Group's own ambitions; support the drafting and rollout of these in conjunction with relevant policy owners. The role will require close alignment with other Sustainability leads, the Group Compliance and Risk functions, to support policy reviews and make suggestions for improvement.

Communication
  • Support communication of the reporting requirements to the broader business.
  • Present a confident, articulate, professional, trustworthy character to stakeholders.

  • Build effective working relationships to support delivery of agreed outputs and recommendations.

  • Support the delivery of internal and external communications, with guidance from senior colleagues.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain internal and external cross-functional relationships to support the delivery of ESG-related reporting, policy and strategy

  • Support integration across functions (e.g., compliance, risk, procurement, HR)

  • Support the accuracy and completeness of public disclosures

  • Support business units and clusters in promoting consistent approaches and best practice sharing.

  • Contribute to clear team processes and engagement approaches with stakeholders across the Group.

  • Participate in ESG-related forums that OML is involved in, where required and with guidance from senior colleagues

People
  • Manages own performance

Finance and Governance:
  • Complies with Finance and Risk management governances
Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required;
  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability-related field. Post graduate qualification advantageous

  • Comprehensive job-related experience in Sustainability (3 years to 5 years)

  • Experience in ESG reporting with a strong understanding of ESG reporting frameworks

  • Experience in data management and policy development and analysis essential - previous experience in a Group-level sustainability function advantageous

  • Strong ability to build and maintain external and internal cross-functional relationships

  • Experience in audit and assurance is advantageous

  • Strong business knowledge and commercial acumen

  • Excellent stakeholder management

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to tight deadlines

  • Initiative to work independently
