JUNIOR MANAGER RESEARCH ANALYST
Location: On-site in Richmond, VA
Department: Davenport Asset Management
Hiring Range: $60,000 - $90,000
OVERVIEW
Davenport's Manager Research team manages ETF and mutual fund portfolios for our clients and provides asset allocation guidance and investment due diligence on mutual funds, ETFs, separate accounts, and alternative investments.
The Junior Manager Research Analyst supports the Manager Research team by conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis of external investment managers and strategies across asset classes. This role is designed for an early career investment professional who is developing core research skills, investment judgment, and familiarity with institutional portfolio construction. The analyst will assist in all aspects of due diligence and ongoing review process as outlined below.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in researching investment managers across traditional and alternative asset classes
  • Analyze historical performance, attribution, and risk metrics, including peer group comparisons and benchmark analysis
  • Help in collecting data for asset class research and asset allocation decisions
  • Support initial and ongoing due diligence, including analysis of investment philosophy, process, performance, risk, and organization
  • Maintain and update manager research files, databases, and due diligence documentation
  • Participate in manager calls, meetings, and on-site visits; prepare notes and follow up materials
  • Prepare written research summaries, scorecards, and internal memos
  • Contribute to the creation of client facing materials, RFP responses, and presentation exhibits as needed
  • Respond to internal research requests from advisors and portfolio managers
  • Support ongoing improvement of the manager research process, templates, and workflows
  • Coordinate with portfolio managers, trading, and operations teams to ensure accurate implementation of manager decisions
  • Stay current on market trends, manager research best practices, and regulatory considerations
  • Identify ways to incorporate artificial intelligence into the manager research process

QUALIFICATIONS
  • College Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in investment research, asset management, consulting, or a related analytical field preferred
  • Progress toward or interest in obtaining the CFA designation strongly preferred
  • Interest in investment strategies and capital markets
  • Extremely well-organized, detail oriented and accurate; must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Highly motivated; ability to work independently, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; familiarity with performance analytics tools and databases a plus
  • Ability to learn and master computer programs that house customer data
  • Ability to understand and adhere to industry rules and regulations
  • Professional demeanor
