Job description

The Research Analyst will investigate the diagnosis, immunopathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium ulcerous infections using animal models. The individual will work with the PI to design, implement, and manage the research program. Interactions include coordinating studies with other research personnel and outside collaborators, "hands-on" work with murine and guinea pig models, supervision of technicians and/or post-doctoral fellows, consultation with outside experts, and custom orders and purchasing from vendors. The individual will also have primary responsibilities for analysis and presentation of data, meeting reporting requirements, and other administrative duties for sponsored awards, and assisting the PI with the preparation of grants and manuscripts pertinent to the work. The Research Analyst role requires a proactive individual who will work autonomously to monitor and complete research projects, supervise students and/or staff, and draft grant proposals and publications.
The Research Analyst will apply advanced scientific knowledge and experience toward specialized scientific laboratory research interests.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Handle bio-hazardous material under Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 conditions without supervision.
  • Train new employees, fellows, and students in laboratory and data management and analysis techniques.
  • Maintain personnel records of attendance at regulatory/training sessions (e.g., biohazard, radiation safety, HIPPA etc.).
  • Maintain laboratory regulatory approvals for research involving animals and mycobacteria.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and actively participate in the conduct of animal experiments to evaluate new drug or vaccine candidates.

  • Collaborate with the PI to design, implement, and manage the laboratory research program.
  • Collaborate with PI on decisions regarding research that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or alteration of scientific direction.
  • Develop and utilize advanced specialized techniques based on scientific background and laboratory research interests.
  • Coordinate own objectives and those of laboratory team members.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data for multiple purposes, e.g., presentations, publications, relevant sections of research grants, etc.
  • Provide a leadership role to laboratory staff, learners, and junior faculty in the role of an expert consultant on relevant laboratory functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
