What is a dual manager?

A Dual Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing two departments, teams, or business units within an organization, often in hospitality, retail, or service industries. This role requires balancing the operational needs, staff management, and performance goals of both areas simultaneously. Dual Managers need strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills to ensure both departments run efficiently and meet company objectives. They may also act as a liaison between upper management and frontline employees, implementing company policies and driving continuous improvement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dual manager?

To excel as a Dual Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, experience in operations and team supervision, and typically a background in business management or hospitality. Familiarity with property management systems, scheduling software, and budgeting tools is often required. Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving, and effective communication set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for efficiently overseeing multiple teams or locations, ensuring consistent service quality and operational success.

How do dual managers effectively balance responsibilities across multiple departments or teams?

Dual Managers typically oversee operations in two distinct departments or functional areas, requiring them to be highly organized and adaptable. A common challenge is prioritizing tasks and ensuring both teams receive adequate attention and leadership. Effective Dual Managers often rely on strong communication, delegation, and time-management skills, as well as regular check-ins with both teams to maintain workflow and morale. Building collaborative relationships and fostering a unified culture across their areas of responsibility are key to success in this role.

Description

Who We Are

White Lodging develops and operates a portfolio of award-winning premium hotels, rooftop bars, and restaurants in some of the country's most dynamic cities. We know that the hospitality business, like life, is about how you make people feel. That's where you come in. You'll help bring the virtue of hospitality to life while we create an environment that allows you to be your best self and grow.

Aloft Austin Downtown and Element Austin Downtown are two distinct and complementary Marriott lifestyle brands sharing a dynamic dual-branded hotel presence in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas. Aloft delivers a bold, social, music-forward experience perfectly tuned to Austin's creative energy and vibrant culture. Element offers thoughtfully designed extended-stay accommodations for the modern long-term traveler - a compelling product for corporate relocation clients, project-based business travelers, and guests who need the comforts of home in one of the country's most exciting urban markets. Together, these two properties represent one of the most dynamic dual-branded Marriott hotel operations in the Austin market - and a uniquely compelling General Manager opportunity for a senior hospitality leader ready to operate at the highest level.

We are hiring a Dual General Manager to lead all operations across both Aloft Austin Downtown and Element Austin Downtown. This is a senior hotel General Manager role in Austin, Texas for a proven hospitality leader with 3 to 5 years of GM experience who brings deep financial acumen, a track record of building high-performing teams, and the strategic mindset to drive exceptional results across two distinct Marriott lifestyle brands simultaneously. If you're a General Manager, Hotel General Manager, or senior hotel operations leader looking for General Manager jobs in Austin, TX or dual-branded Marriott GM roles in the downtown Austin hotel market, this is a rare and high-impact leadership opportunity with one of the country's most respected hotel development and management companies.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, develop, and influence the leadership teams across Aloft Austin Downtown and Element Austin Downtown - driving overall financial performance, cultural excellence, and an exceptional guest experience across both Marriott lifestyle hotel brands
  • Serve as the strategic business leader for both properties - owning full accountability for P&L management, guest satisfaction scores, Marriott brand Quality Assurance standards, budget development, and labor productivity across the dual-branded Austin hotel operation
  • Direct the leadership teams and develop the performance of all operating departments across both properties - including food and beverage, sales, marketing, and human resources - ensuring each department operates at the highest level of the White Lodging and Marriott brand standards
  • Lead the day-to-day culture at Aloft Austin Downtown and Element Austin Downtown - maintaining the highest level of ethical leadership to achieve strong associate engagement scores and consistently excellent guest satisfaction results
  • Build owner confidence through proactive communication, transparent expectation management, and the consistent delivery of solid business results across both downtown Austin Marriott properties
  • Uphold the style, ambiance, and brand identity of both Aloft and Element - bringing each brand to life authentically for associates and guests and ensuring the guest experience is flawless and on-brand at every touchpoint
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Regional Vice Presidents and the White Lodging Corporate Leadership team

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of hotel General Manager experience - required; prior GM experience at a dual-branded, Aloft, Element, or comparable Marriott lifestyle brand property strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of delivering strong financial results - with demonstrated hands-on experience analyzing P&L statements, developing operating budgets, forecasting, and capital expenditure planning across a full-service or lifestyle hotel environment
  • Proven track record of building, influencing, and growing cohesive, high-performing hotel leadership teams - with demonstrated success driving positive associate engagement and guest satisfaction scores at a dual-branded or upscale hotel property
  • Solid cross-disciplinary knowledge of revenue management, hotel sales, marketing, and food and beverage strategies - with the ability to leverage each discipline to impact overall business objectives across two distinct Marriott lifestyle brands
  • Working knowledge of governmental regulations and safety standards - including OSHA, EPA, ADA, CFC, and NFPA - and the ability to ensure full compliance across both Austin hotel properties
  • Strong labor productivity management skills - with the ability to effectively manage scheduling, staffing levels, and labor cost across a dual-branded hotel operation in the competitive downtown Austin market
  • An entrepreneurial, creative problem-solving mindset - you can originate and execute innovative approaches to creating a unique guest experience and maximizing revenue across two distinct hotel brand identities simultaneously
  • Experience with Aloft, Element, or Marriott brand systems, standards, and quality assurance processes - prior dual-branded GM experience in the Austin, Texas market a significant advantage

What You Can Look Forward To

  • Unlimited employee referral bonuses
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO) with rollover
  • Complimentary wellness tools
  • Leadership development & tuition reimbursement
  • Discounts on hotel rooms, dining, and travel
  • Growth opportunities across multiple hotel properties in your market
  • Full-time associates also receive:
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance - starting day 1
    • Life and disability insurance
    • Paid parental leave
