Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of EHS, the Driver Training Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all driver and equipment operator training programs for the companyโ€™s transportation and field operations divisions. This position operates under the Safety Department and ensures all training aligns with company safety policies, operational standards, DOT/FMCSA regulations, environmental requirements, and industry best practices.

The Driver Training Manager will oversee onboarding and training for new hires, coordinate retraining and corrective action programs for existing employees, manage field trainers, and maintain company-wide training documentation and standards across all operating divisions.

Key Responsibilities:

TRAINING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

ยท Develop, implement, and continuously improve company training programs, manuals, SOPs, policies, and instructional materials.

ยท Create standardized onboarding and qualification programs for all driver and equipment classifications.

ยท Develop both classroom and hands-on field training procedures.

ยท Ensure training materials remain compliant with:

  • DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • OSHA requirements
  • EPA/environmental regulations
  • Company safety and operational policies
  • Customer-specific requirements

NEW HIRE TRAINING AND QUALIFICATION

ยท Coordinate and oversee all onboarding and driver qualification training for new employees.

ยท Evaluate driver competency through ride-alongs, practical demonstrations, written testing, and field assessments.

ยท Verify employees are properly trained before operating independently.

ยท Work with Operations and Safety Departments to determine readiness for release to full duty.

RETRAINING AND CORRECTIVE ACTION

ยท Conduct remedial and corrective training following:

  • Accidents/incidents
  • Near misses
  • Customer complaints
  • Policy violations
  • DOT violations
  • Operational deficiencies

ยท Develop performance improvement plans for employees requiring additional coaching or retraining.

ยท Track and document all retraining activities.

TRAINER OVERSIGHT amp; LEADERSHIP

ยท Manage and coordinate company trainers and field training personnel.

ยท Ensure trainers are following standardized company training procedures.

ยท Evaluate trainer performance and effectiveness.

ยท Schedule training activities and coordinate with operations leadership to minimize operational disruptions.

SAFETY amp; COMPLIANCE

ยท Partner closely with the Safety Department to reinforce company safety culture and regulatory compliance.

ยท Promote safe driving habits, spill prevention, environmental awareness, cargo securement, and defensive driving techniques.

ยท Assist with accident investigations and identify training opportunities to reduce future incidents.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

ยท Assist with implementation of new operational procedures, equipment, and technologies.

ยท Participate in development of company safety meetings and training presentations.

ยท Support company initiatives related to safety performance, operational efficiency, and employee development.

Qualifications and Experience

ยท High school diploma or equivalent required.

ยท Minimum of 5 years experience in fuel transportation, tanker operations, or commercial driving operations preferred.

ยท Prior training, supervisory, or leadership experience preferred.

ยท Strong understanding of:

  • DOT/FMCSA regulations
  • Hours-of-Service compliance
  • Tanker operations
  • Fuel delivery procedures
  • Environmental and spill response requirements
  • Defensive driving practices

ยท Valid CDL preferred.

ยท Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

ยท Ability to train and communicate effectively with employees at all experience levels.

ยท Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital training/documentation systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

ยท Lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds;

ยท Clear speech in the English language;

ยท Ability to work in both office and field environments.

ยท Ability to travel between company locations and job sites as needed.
