Job description

Mill Creek Lumber & Supply Company is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Commercial Estimator - Doors, Frames & Hardware (DFH) to join our growing commercial team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial door, frame, and hardware packages across a wide variety of projects including education, healthcare, hospitality, office, multi-family, and institutional construction.
The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting architectural plans and specifications, coordinating with vendors and project teams, and managing the estimating process from bid stage through project handoff. This position plays a critical role in supporting project success through attention to detail, technical knowledge, and strong communication.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare complete DFH estimates and takeoffs
  • Develop detailed door, frame, and hardware schedules for commercial construction projects
  • Coordinate pricing and technical information with manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Prepare and submit accurate bid proposals within required deadlines
  • Interpret building codes, fire ratings, ADA requirements, and hardware standards
  • Assist with product substitutions, value engineering, and scope clarifications
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, sales teams, contractors, architects, and field personnel
  • Support submittal preparation, material procurement, and closeout documentation as needed
  • Maintain organized project records, revisions, and bid tracking information
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to operations

Qualifications
  • Experience in commercial estimating, doors/frames/hardware, millwork, or commercial construction preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction documents
  • Knowledge of commercial hardware applications, fire code requirements, and ADA compliance
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction-related software platforms
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, PlanSwift, or similar estimating/project management systems preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong mathematical and analytical skills
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of Division 8 products and commercial construction processes
  • Understanding of hollow metal frames, wood doors, finish hardware, access control, and specialty openings
  • Ability to identify scope gaps and provide proactive solutions
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and collaborative approach
