Role Overview:
This position leads a team of technical professionals responsible for sustaining Indiana's state transportation infrastructure through comprehensive long-range planning and project scoping efforts. The role oversees the identification, development, and refinement of roadway, bridge, and safety infrastructure projects that support INDOT's mission to plan for the future while maintaining safe and efficient state assets.
In addition to capital program scoping, this team serves as a front-line resource for addressing customer concerns, coordinating with local officials, and ensuring community needs are understood and incorporated into decision-making. The position also provides leadership and direction in the development of the district maintenance work plan and oversees the permitting of non-state work within INDOT right-of-way to ensure safety, compliance, and asset protection.Success in this role requires the ability to lead, develop, and engage a multidisciplinary technical team; remain flexible and decisive during emergency infrastructure events; and effectively navigate public-facing, community, and local-government interactions. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capability, sound engineering or technical judgment, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving in a dynamic operational environment.

Salary:

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Review and evaluate organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning, etc., makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and coordinate plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision and expectations of agency or program.
  • Provide guidance to agencies and the public regarding applicable laws and rules.
  • Supervise subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload, and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Monitor agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures, and budget projections.
  • Communicate with news and other media. responds to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner.
  • Coordinate with other government officials on planning issues (i.e. federal and/or state agency directors, etc.).
  • Coordinate, review and evaluate the use of appropriate controls and standards for the agency.
