What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in a Division 8 role within construction?

Most Division 8 professionals spend their days reviewing project specifications, coordinating the selection and ordering of doors, frames, and hardware, and ensuring materials meet architectural requirements and building codes. They frequently interact with general contractors, architects, and suppliers to manage schedules, clarify technical requirements, and resolve product compatibility issues. Managing submittals, handling change orders, and conducting site visits to verify installations are also common tasks. This collaborative and detail-oriented workflow keeps construction projects on track and ensures successful installation of key building elements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Division 8 position, and why are they important?

To excel in a Division 8 position, which typically refers to roles in commercial construction focused on doors, frames, and hardware, strong knowledge of building codes, construction drawings, and product specifications is essential. • Execute detailed migration plans, timelines, and role-based training programs to guide teams through each phase of the transition.
  • Lead legacy system data entry and conversion efforts (estimates, projects, detailing data) into Comsense during acquisition onboarding.
  • Partner with division teams to validate migrated data and resolve gaps or inconsistencies.
  • Act as surge support during acquisitions to help reduce operational strain on local teams.
Training & Enablement
  • Deliver role-based Comsense training for estimators, detailers, project managers, and operations teams.

  • Serve as a trusted resource for "how-to" questions related to Comsense during transition periods.
  • Provide best-in-class instructional support while managing time-sensitive deliverables.
Operational & Continuous Improvement

  • Experience with D28 specifications preferred but not required.
  • Proven experience training users and documenting processes.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate informal knowledge into clear documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam and Adobe is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced, ambiguous, and evolving environments (especially during acquisitions).
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Our Client's divisions as needed.
