Experience: MS and +12 years of relevant industry experience, including 5 years in people management and a proven track record in product marketing, commercialization, and strategic leadership.
Watchmaker Genomics is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and scientifically driven Associate Director of Product Marketing, reporting to our Vice President, Marketing, to lead our Product Marketing function. This individual will oversee a team responsible for product commercialization, technical marketing, scientific content development, and commercial execution across our genomics and molecular diagnostics portfolios.
The Associate Director will partner closely with Product Management, R&D, Applications, Commercial, and Marketing Communications to translate scientific innovation into successful product launches and sustained commercial growth. This role combines strategic leadership with scientific expertise to drive product positioning, commercialization planning, customer engagement, and lifecycle marketing while developing a high-performing Product Marketing team.
This is a highly visible leadership role with broad influence across the organization and significant opportunity to shape Watchmaker's commercial strategy and long-term growth.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Product Marketing team.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused culture while setting clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Allocate team resources to support commercialization priorities across the portfolio.

Product Commercialization & Go-to-Market
  • Lead the Product Marketing team in developing and executing commercialization strategies across Watchmaker's genomics and molecular diagnostics portfolios.
  • Own the overall product positioning framework and unified communication strategy, ensuring consistent, differentiated messaging across products, campaigns, and customer touchpoints.
  • Guide cross-functional go-to-market planning and lifecycle marketing strategies, including positioning, messaging, launch strategy, sales enablement, and lifecycle marketing.
  • Ensure successful commercialization through close partnership with Product Management, Commercial, Applications, R&D, and Operations.

Technical Marketing & Scientific Content
  • Oversee the development of scientific content and technical marketing assets that communicate differentiated product value.
  • Guide technical marketing priorities, including customer collaborations, technical data generation, and publication strategy.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy and consistency across customer-facing marketing materials.
  • Support the advancement of digital marketing initiatives, including demand generation, lead management, and e-commerce, to expand market reach, strengthen customer acquisition and conversion, and support revenue growth.

Cross-functional and Strategic Marketing Leadership
  • Partner with Product Management to align commercialization activities with portfolio strategy and product roadmaps.
  • Provide strategic direction for partnerships with Marketing Communications, Sales, Applications, and Executive Leadership.
  • Incorporate customer insights, competitive intelligence, and market trends into commercialization planning.
  • Establish commercialization priorities and marketing investments that support portfolio growth.
  • Monitor marketing performance and optimize programs using data-driven insights.
  • Contribute to annual commercial planning and continuous improvement of marketing processes.

Education and Experience
  • MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Genomics, or a related scientific discipline required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant industry experience in life sciences, biotechnology, or molecular diagnostics.
  • 2-4 years of people management experience with demonstrated success developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading product commercialization and product marketing initiatives.
  • Experience participating in or leading cross-functional new product development teams.
  • Strong understanding of genomics, molecular diagnostics, or related technologies.
  • Customer-facing experience (e.g., Product Management, Field Applications, Technical Marketing, or Sales) is preferred.

Skills and Requirements
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing Product Marketing teams.
  • Proven experience leading product commercialization and go-to-market initiatives in the life sciences, biotechnology, or molecular diagnostics industry.

  • Excellent scientific writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience developing product positioning, messaging, sales enablement, and commercialization strategies.

  • Strong customer and market orientation with experience incorporating customer insights and competitive intelligence into commercial strategy.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience measuring commercialization effectiveness and marketing performance.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple strategic initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).

Compensation
The base compensation for the Associate Director, Product Marketing role starts at $150,000 - $170,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, employer paid dental, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
