Job description

The Senior Director of Solar Engineering is our senior design authority for utility-scale solar and storage projects, responsible for the technical design basis that drives each project’s value, cost, and constructability. You will own the configuration and technology decisions that shape a project from initiation through early-stage design. You'll balancing customer requirements, site and interconnection constraints, and company standards to define the right solution for each project and for competitive EPC bids. You will lead a focused, senior team of roughly 8–10 project engineers, technical specialists, and civil designers setting the design basis across the company’s utility-scale project portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and optimize the project design basis using company standards, customer requirements, and project-specific feasibility inputs, through early-stage (30%) design.
  • Determine project configuration and technology selection to maximize customer value and project returns.
  • Approve engineering designs for competitive bids and internal projects, and produce the associated bid-stage quantity estimates.
  • Govern changes to the design basis by evaluating proposed changes on technical merit and maintaining design integrity through construction.
  • Partner with development, procurement, construction, and the discipline engineering teams to ensure designs are buildable and aligned to project goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of project engineers, technical specialists, and designers.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design quality, consistency, and throughput.

Desired Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in utility-scale solar and/or storage engineering
  • Experience in design, estimating, and technology selection at volume
  • Ownership of the full project configuration space including, but not limited to trackers, electrical balance of plant, civil and geotechnical considerations, PV modules, and battery storage.
  • Strong technical judgment and the confidence to hold a position under commercial and schedule pressure.
  • Experience leading technical teams and approving design or bid deliverables.
  • PE license preferred.
