Job description

Position: Accounting Director – Property Management

Location: Sacramento, CA

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage the accounting team responsible for day-to-day operations across multiple properties.

• Oversee preparation and review of monthly financial statements, ensuring all reports are complete and accurate.

• Assign tasks, review performance, and provide leadership for accountants and A/P staff.

• Manage accounts payable, receivables, and general ledger functions.

• Review and approve checks, wire transfers, and vendor payments.

• Monitor property cash flow and financial health, ensuring adequate liquidity and timely collections.

• Support annual audits by coordinating with external auditors and ensuring timely delivery of required materials.

• Oversee annual 1099 preparation and year-end accounting processes.

• Review audit results and ensure all recommended adjustments are properly recorded.

• Collaborate with property managers, regional leadership, and ownership groups to interpret financial results.

• Manage new property onboarding, including system setup in Yardi or MRI and data transition from prior management firms.

• Prepare business license filings and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

• Lead accounting team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

• Perform special projects or financial analyses as directed by senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.

• 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a management role.

• Prior experience within property management, real estate, or related industries strongly preferred.

• Advanced Excel proficiency and strong working knowledge of Word and Outlook.

• Experience using Yardi, MRI, or similar property management accounting software.

• Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

• CPA designation preferred but not required.
