Job description

Director of Technology Operations โ€“ Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)
Weโ€™re looking for BoardSourceโ€™s next Director of Technology Operations. We aren't just looking for a "tech person,โ€ weโ€™re looking for a strategic collaborator who believes that the right systems can empower a more just social sector.
About BoardSource
BoardSource is on a transformative journey to ensure every social sector organization has the leadership it needs to thrive. We are shifting from providing standard technical support to becoming a powerful voice for equity and shifting power within nonprofit boards. Our work is grounded in four pillars: Listening, Learning, Co-creation, and Expertise, all aimed at centering the communities most impacted by injustice.
Why This Role Exists
We are currently evolving how we engage our community, moving toward a model where technology is the primary vehicle for support and connection. We need a leader who can bridge the gap between day-to-day IT stability and long-term digital innovation, ensuring our team has the tools they need to stay responsive and impactful.
Why Youโ€™ll Love Working Here
You won't be tucked away in a server room; you will be a central part of a high-communication, compassion-first team that views you as a strategic partner. This is a rare opportunity to lead an organizational shift in a "people-first" environment where your expertise directly enables social change across the entire nonprofit sector.
What Youโ€™ll Be Doing
  • Strategizing: Working across the organization to identify tech enhancements and lead the shift toward a tech-integrated community engagement model, especially identifying how BoardSource can leverage AI to improve customer experience, streamline processes, and gain efficiencies in program and membership delivery.
  • Salesforce Ownership: Acting as the "pro" for our CRM and e-commerce platforms, handling everything from joined reports and page layouts to full-scale project implementation.
  • Vendor Management: Orchestrating our external partners, including helpdesk support, website devs, and Salesforce consultants.
  • Workflow Optimization: Strengthening how our departments talk to each other through smarter system integrations.
  • Policy amp; Security: Developing the "playbook" for IT security, privacy, and business continuity to keep our data and our people safe.
  • Team Support: Partnering with our Managed Service Provider to ensure every new team member is set up for success from day one.
  • Budgeting: Collaborating with the Chief of Staff to build and manage a technology budget that reflects our strategic goals.
What You Bring to the Table
  • The Experience: Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent professional experience, plus 5 or more years of professional experience in tech operations or project management, ideally within a service-delivery or nonprofit environment.
  • The Salesforce Edge: You have deep, hands-on knowledge of Salesforce (B2B Commerce experience or certifications are a huge plus!).
  • The Mindset: You are a proactive problem-solver who values lived experience and approaches technical challenges with humility and a collaborative spirit.
  • The Communication: You can translate "tech-speak" into human-speak and enjoy working in a highly interactive, feedback-rich environment.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience with 5+ years of professional work experience, including at least 5 years of relevant experience in technology operations management and/or project management leadership, ideally in a technology or service-delivery environment.
  • Deep knowledge of Salesforce with experience creating joined reports, adding new fields, updating existing fields, customizing page layouts, and setting up products.
  • Deep understanding of operational workflows, resource management, and process optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of IT management, security and risk management practices.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills grounded in both operational and security contexts.
  • Exceptional communication, problem solving, and collaboration abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in project management and cross-functional coordination.
  • A proactive, strategic mindset focused on continuous improvement and organizational resilience.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
Preferred Skills:
  • Salesforce B2B Commerce Experience or Certification and experience with membership management processes in Salesforce
  • Project Management Experience or Certification
Location Note:
This position is based in Washington, D.C. We embrace a hybrid model where staff are in the office at least twice a month (typically Tuesdays).
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $131,000-$160,000. BoardSource offers competitive wages, growth opportunities and excellent benefits, including high-quality health insurance with dental and vision coverage; life insurance; a retirement plan with employer match; and other work/life benefits.
