Position Overview

The Director of Engineering (Chief Engineer) is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, functionality, and appearance of the AC Hotel & Moxy Dallas Uptown. As a member of the hotel's leadership team, this position oversees all engineering operations, preventive maintenance programs, life safety systems, capital projects, and building infrastructure to ensure a safe, efficient, and exceptional guest experience.

As part of the opening leadership team, the Director of Engineering will play a critical role in the pre-opening phase, including building commissioning, vendor coordination, systems training, warranty management, and establishing preventive maintenance programs that support long-term asset performance.

 Job Overview

Engineering & Facilities Leadership

  • Direct and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs.
  • Maintain all building systems, equipment, guestrooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas to Marriott and Peachtree standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local building codes and regulations.
  • Manage hotel maintenance requests and work order systems.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and implement corrective action plans.

Opening & Asset Management

  • Participate in pre-opening activities including building turnover, commissioning, punch-list completion, and systems training.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, ownership representatives, and project teams during the opening process.
  • Establish engineering operating procedures and maintenance standards.
  • Manage equipment warranties and service agreements.
  • Support long-term asset preservation and capital planning initiatives.

Life Safety & Risk Management

  • Oversee all life safety systems including fire alarms, emergency generators, sprinkler systems, elevators, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott life safety requirements and local regulations.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning and training.
  • Maintain all required safety documentation and inspection records.
  • Support workplace safety initiatives and accident prevention programs.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.
  • Monitor engineering expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in annual capital planning and forecasting processes.
  • Manage inventory levels, purchasing activities, and vendor relationships.
  • Review utility usage and implement energy conservation initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, develop, and supervise engineering associates.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish staffing plans and schedules to support operational needs.

Guest Experience Support

  • Ensure all guest-facing areas consistently meet brand standards.
  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance concerns and service requests.
  • Partner with operational leaders to maintain exceptional guest satisfaction scores.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering or facilities management experience within hospitality, commercial real estate, multifamily, healthcare, or related industries
  • Previous Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering or comparable leadership experience preferred
  • Marriott experience strongly preferred
  • Previous hotel opening, renovation, repositioning, or major capital project experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting building commissioning, turnover, warranty management, and contractor coordination preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems
  • Experience managing vendors, service contracts, and capital improvement projects
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction documents
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • EPA Certification, HVAC Certification, or related technical certifications preferred
  • Certified Hotel Maintenance Employee (CHME) certification a plus
