What You Will Be Doing

As the Senior Director of Janitorial Operations, you will lead the profitability and operational performance of a multi-site commercial cleaning business with a primary focus on driving revenue growth and expanding existing client partnerships. This role combines strategic sales leadership with operational oversight, ensuring exceptional service delivery, client satisfaction, and consistent execution across commercial, healthcare, industrial, and educational facilities. Success in this position requires a hands-on leader who can develop high-performing teams, strengthen client relationships, identify growth opportunities within existing accounts, and align operational excellence with long-term business objectives and revenue goals. Approximately 60% of this role focuses on sales and revenue generation, while 40% is dedicated to operational leadership, service excellence, and client satisfaction.

This position is based in Ypsilanti, MI with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.

Senior Director of Janitorial Operations Key Duties and Responsibilities

Business Development and Sales

  • Drive new business growth and develop strategic sales initiatives to achieve $1M+ in new revenue within the first two years.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to clients by maintaining consistent communication, driving service excellence, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage the sales pipeline, proposals, contracts, and business development activities using platforms such as Pipedrive and Ironclad.

Operational Leadership

  • Provide oversight of the janitorial business unit through direct leadership of the Director of Operations and four Area Managers
  • Monitor operational performance, service quality, staffing, and KPIs across commercial office, healthcare, industrial, and educational accounts.
  • Oversee operations across 90+ client sites and accounts, ensuring consistent, high-quality janitorial services.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the executive escalation point for significant client concerns and service-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
  • Expand existing business through additional services and enhancement projects.

Compliance, Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies and industry regulations.
  • Monitor quality metrics, audit performance, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Maintain high service standards through continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.

Financial & Strategic Management

  • Oversee business performance, profitability, and achievement of revenue goals.
  • Analyze sales and operational metrics to support strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, pricing strategies, and long-term business planning initiatives.

Senior Director of Janitorial Operations Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Sales, or a related field preferred or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in business development, facilities management, janitorial services, or a related service industry.
  • 5+ years in Operations Management.
  • A valid driverโ€™s license and a personal vehicle.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth, account expansion, and client retention.
  • Experience overseeing multi-site operations within commercial industries.
  • Demonstrated success developing managers and building high-performing teams.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop, and capitalize on growth opportunities within existing client portfolios to increase revenue and profitability.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience using CRM and CLM platforms to streamline processes.
