Job description

Starkey, Inc. is seeking a proven and mission-driven Director of Development to lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising program that advances our mission of promoting independence for people with intellectual disabilities. This leadership role works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Starkey Foundation to drive sustainable funding, strengthen donor relationships, and oversee successful special events and development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive development plan aligned with organizational goals
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Boards to establish annual and long-term fundraising strategies
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation support
  • Develop and implement meaningful donor recognition and stewardship strategies to acknowledge contributions and strengthen long-term relationships
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals and funding requests aligned with Starkey's mission
  • Support and guide board members and volunteers in donor cultivation and solicitation

Special Events & Campaigns

  • Plan, promote, and oversee all fundraising events with a focus on year-over-year revenue growth
  • Cultivate event sponsorships and oversee volunteer engagement
  • Ensure high-quality donor and participant experiences at all events

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and provide strategic direction on development initiatives
  • Supervise development staff, including the Event Coordinator and Development Coordinator
  • Train and support board members in fundraising efforts
  • Collaborate across departments to align fundraising with organizational priorities

Operations & Administration

  • Manage and track donor engagement using Bloomerang or similar donor database systems
  • Develop and manage the annual development budget and monitor performance
  • Ensure accurate gift processing, acknowledgments, and reporting
  • Maintain compliance with ethical fundraising practices and organizational policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of fundraising experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Proven success in annual campaigns, donor development, and fundraising strategy execution
  • Experience with grants, corporate/foundation solicitations, and capital campaigns preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and relationship-building abilities
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
