Job Summary:

Assistant Director of Academic Success. Non-tenure Track Faculty. 12-month appointment with eligibility for continuing appointment. Instructor Status. The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law is seeking to appoint an Assistant Director of Academic Success.

Job Description:

The Assistant Director will lead the academic support program at ONU and coordinate with and report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to provide an integrated program of academic support and bar support services.

The Assistant Director will be an integral part of the Academic Success Program (ASP) at Ohio Northern University College of Law, working with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Assistant Director for Bar Passage by:

  • Designing and implementing strategies to successfully assist all students' learning, particularly in areas of essay writing, reading comprehension, issue spotting, and legal analysis;
  • Designing and implementing strategies to successfully assist at-risk and high-risk students through individual instruction and by teaching academic support-related courses, including hosting weekly ASP sessions in the Summer Starter Program;
  • Assisting in designing and implementing the academic support component of orientation programs and coordinating and teaching in the January term to first-year students;
  • Hiring, training, and supervising the teaching assistants in the ASP;
  • Evaluating and creating, along with other members of the administration, reports on statistical data regarding students' academic performance and providing input regarding the effectiveness of ASP programs and initiatives.

Required Skills:

  • Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with groups of students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold at least a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school with a minimum of more than one year's prior experience in academic support.
