This ability has made us a leader in the engineering and construction communities, and has strengthened our reputation as being progressive, innovative, and a great place to work.

Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Anchorage office and support a growing portfolio of energy and industrial projects across Alaska and the Lower 48. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, energetic team player with 5+ years of project management, design, and engineering experience in oil & gas, LNG, power generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydrogen, carbon management, and industrial infrastructure projects. The role offers direct involvement in project execution from early planning and feasibility through detailed design and construction support.

Coffman offers a collaborative, technically driven work environment where engineers are encouraged to take initiative, develop practical solutions, and build long-term careers in the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project management and engineering execution for energy and industrial projects, including oil & gas production facilities, LNG infrastructure, power generation, hydrogen, BESS, and related facilities.
  • Assist with development of project scopes, execution plans, cost estimates, schedules, and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) and external vendors.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and technical problem-solving throughout project development and construction.
  • Support preparation and review of engineering documents, including:
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Site plans, foundation plans, and structural details
    • Electrical one-lines and equipment layouts
    • Specifications, basis of design documents, and bills of material
  • Interface directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders under the guidance of senior project managers.
  • Provide construction-phase engineering support, including RFI responses, field coordination, and issue resolution.
  • Support proposal development, feasibility studies, and business development efforts as experience grows.
  • Travel to project sites and other Coffman offices as needed (typically less than 25%).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience supporting energy, industrial, oil & gas, LNG, power generation, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to project engineering or project management functions in industrial or energy markets.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Alaska preferred (or ability to obtain).
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering coordination and industrial design processes.
  • Experience with cost estimating, scheduling, and total installed cost development is a plus.
  • Experience with front-end engineering, feasibility studies, or construction support is desirable.
  • Proficiency with common engineering and project tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel, Word).

Desired Attributes

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Interest in developing broad-based experience across multiple energy technologies and project phases.
  • Desire to grow into increased technical responsibility, project leadership, and project management roles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while progressively managing independent tasks.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills suited for client-facing and technical environments.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
