Your responsibilities
Position Overview:
thyssenkrupp Uhde USA is currently seeking a Director Business Development and Sales for our Houston, TX office location. The Director Business Development and Sales is responsible for leading the existing sales team, identifying and developing new opportunities as well as managing the sales process until contract closure for service, revamp and new build projects in the area of hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, fertilizer, nitric acid, and gasification plants in the United States and Canada. This role will have strong focus on Uhde's proprietary technologies and sales of Uhde's engineering and procurement services as well as the service business for existing plants to further develop our equipment and plant revamp business.
The Director Business Development and Sales will report directly to the President of tk Uhde USA and align closely with the Global Head of Sales. The role will involve close communication with key personnel in Technology, Engineering, Project Management, Commercial Project Management, Procurement and Legal. Frequent travel to customer sites and industry conferences in North America will be required. Periodic travel to our licensing and technology division in Germany will also be necessary to host client meetings at headquarters.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Identify and develop service projects, equipment replacements, revamps, technical studies and new build projects throughout the North American market for our proprietary hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, fertilizer nitric acid, and gasification processes.
  • Contribute to region strategy by developing strong sales strategies with key clients
  • Evaluate tenders and develop bidding strategies.
  • Develop technical concepts in close cooperation with the customers and our licensing and technology division in Germany.
  • Act as the central contact for customers during the project development and proposal phases.
  • Actively participate in conferences and committee meetings and deliver technical presentations.
  • Manage the bid preparation process, together with the technical & commercial divisions and subcontractors.
  • Direct negotiation of service contracts and provide support for the negotiation of new build projects.
  • Maintain CRM database of opportunities, projects and customers.
  • Support order intake forecasts for operational planning.

Your profile
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering is required or, alternatively, extensive experience in a technical management role at a chemical production facility.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in a similar role or, alternatively, 8 years combined experience in Engineering, Business Development, and Sales in the Chemistry Industry.
  • Experience in managing technical and/or sales teams.
  • Familiar with the chemical process industry as well as the engineering and construction market within North America.
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating contracts in the technical service, engineering and construction industry.
  • Ability to work on multiple project opportunities simultaneously is essential.
  • Experience in giving technical presentations at conferences.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are essential, as is the ability to negotiate with all levels of personnel from corporate management to plant operation, maintenance and management.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within the Fertilizer Industry in North America, either from a licensor/supplier/contractor/services or plant operations background.
  • Familiarity with the chemical process industry as well as the engineering, procurement and construction market within North America.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following production processes: Hydrogen, Ammonia, Methanol, Gasification, Urea, Nitric Acid or Fertilizer.
