Job description

Senior Hydrogen Engineer

The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Senior Hydrogen Engineer will be the technical leader of Fuel Cell and Hydrogen System R&D and industrialization of the technology. This role is responsible for design and development of products that meet cost, performance, durability, and quality needs. The Senior Engineer will work with PiAC engineering management and various business and program leads and is accountable for establishing and delivering key aspects of the program's technical and architectural vision to meet future product requirements. The Senior Mechanical Engineer directs, coordinates, and participates in the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of products and systems while assisting leadership in executing current and future hydrogen initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing deep technical expertise and leadership to R&D team related to hydrogen fuel cells and electric aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Converting customer requirements into a basic product concept; establishing project timing, cost constraints and value targets for all major systems
  • Lead the design, analysis, and testing efforts for advanced hydrogen propulsion systems and related aerospace structures.
  • Focusing on long-range strategy and planning for future technology, product families, major processes and services and technical resources
  • Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, including test plans, vehicle assembly procedures, and system validation processes.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical challenges related to mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain critical engineering deliverables such as designs, technical drawings, specifications, reports and technical proposals.
  • Participating in sourcing, workforce planning, mentoring, and developing the next generation of technical expertise within the product group while nurturing a culture that encourages innovation and collaboration
  • Developing strong internal and external networks including customers, suppliers, product managers, component and systems managers as well as other technical members of each product team

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • 5 or more years of industry experience directly related to hydrogen fuel cells and/or electric aircraft propulsion systems
  • 10+ years total relevant engineering experience in electrification, fuel cells, and hydrogen systems combined
  • The ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, and requirements management is required
  • Demonstrated expertise in new technology development and in particular aircraft systems engineering
  • Project/program management experience
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively

Education / Certifications / Clearances:

  • BSME from a four-year college or university required.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) strongly preferred.
