You will play a critical leadership role in shaping and accelerating our enterprise Lean transformation across the organization-driving strategy, building capability, and delivering sustainable business results at scale.
This role is designed for a highly experienced Commercial Lean leader who thrives in complexity, partners confidently with senior executives, thinks strategically and leads transformation through people, systems, and culture-not tools alone.
About the Role
The Sr Director Business System, Global is a senior-level expert responsible for the design and roll out of the commercial part of the business system. This is a very strategic role that focuses on end-to-end value streams and building the elements of the business system that drive significant growth.
This leader brings deep mastery in a Lean business systems and plays a critical role in the design of Johnson Control's own business system, embedding Lean thinking into how Johnson Controls executes strategy, improves performance, strengthens customer outcomes, and builds a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
Reports To: Vice President, Business Systems, Global
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership, setting strategic direction for the business system -across the global enterprise.
  • Oversee the enterprise Lean Business System, methodologies, tools, and standards; establish governance structures, performance dashboards, and sustainment mechanisms.
  • Partner closely with executive and senior leadership across business units and functions to understand priorities for improvements of the business system and to drive strategic priorities and enterprise-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks impacting customer outcomes, operational performance, quality, delivery, and long-term enterprise results.
  • Drive the deployment of the business system standards and support other leaders globally to adopt it and drive it deeper into the organization.
  • Coach and develop senior leaders to model Lean behaviors and teach advanced Lean concepts.
  • Drive change management by coaching leaders on key behaviors.
  • Deploy enterprise strategy into action with using Hoshin Kanri, ensuring consistent execution across regions and functions.

What You Will Do
  • Define, design, and implement the business system globally (transactional).
  • Develop and deploy practical lean vehicles and practices to improve speed, quality, alignment and outcomes.
  • Support vertical and horizontal integration across Commercial and Service functions.
  • Lead critical, large-scale improvement initiatives aligned to enterprise strategy and business priorities.
  • Identify cross-functional improvement opportunities and lead the development of vehicles and tools to standardization efforts across the enterprise.
  • Coach executive and senior leaders on using the business system to deliver results.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on the company's most critical problems to identify improvement opportunities and drive process focused solutions to close the gap and sustain the results.
  • Use change management frameworks to improve how leaders lead and teams collaborate to drive sustained improvements.
  • Utilize digital and AI solutions to accelerate the business system deployment and generation of results

How You Will Do It
  • Partner with executive, regional, and functional leadership to understand needs and continuously improve the business system with improved and new vehicles and tools to deliver tangible improvements in enterprise performance.
  • Enable global enterprise synergies through best-practice sharing and standardization.
  • Mentor and develop business system leaders in the usage of the vehicles and tools to accelerate results and strengthen a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Foster innovation by introducing new CI techniques, methodologies, and tools across the CI community.
  • Oversee Lean maturity assessments and roadmap development.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business, Quality, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in Continuous Improvement across multiple business domains.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years in business roles using a lean business system.
  • Significant experience in working within and with a mature lean business system.
  • Significant experience in leading enterprise business transformations with recognized business impact at scale.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, especially leading senior leaders indirectly through influence; strong business acumen.
  • Mastery of Lean systems, cultural transformation, and change leadership.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills; ability to establish rapport with leaders and peers across levels and geographies.
  • Proven analytical and systems-thinking capability with end-to-end solution design.
  • Excellent facilitation and strategic-thinking skills.
  • Proactive risk management and issue-resolution skills with appropriate escalation.

Travel Requirements: 50-75%
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $156,000-245k (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
